★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I prefer this one as to Southside Safeway as they are way friendlier and they don't change anything so everything is where it is. Prices are okay seeming that you get airmiles but I prefer big grocery trips elsewhere.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Huge variety here.. and their selection of ready to go food is great... huge dagwood subs, pizzas, meat and cheese trays. You should be able to find anything for groceries that you want.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A bit too pricey compared to Superstore and Walmart. For some reason every time I go here I get half as many grocery bags for the same price as I would pay at Superstore for twice as many (grocery bags filled with groceries). My shopping list is fairly consistent so it's a pretty even comparison.
The store has a Starbucks inside which is not a plus, Starbucks is absolutely disgusting coffee and it constantly smells like something is being burned there (most likely their coffee). Not a pleasant or appetizing smell to endure while shopping for groceries.
The meat department is always picked over and the shelves are pretty bare.
They also switched to brown paper bags. Let me tell you, with plastic bags you can carry like 5 bags in each hand. With fully loaded paper bags you're lucky if you can get one in each hand and still be able to unlock your vehicle. Saving the environment is one thing but there are compostable plastics out there now. Paper bags are never reusable and seem more wasteful (and utterly useless) compared to bio-degradable/compostable plastics.
They get 3 stars which seems high for as many negative things I have to say about them. But they have an amazing fresh produce section, one of the best. They have a few specialty items that are hard to find elsewhere and their international food isle is usually pretty well stocked. Also their employees are usually SUPER polite and helpful.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I love the lunch counter at Safeway Northside. The Southside one is closer to my home so I use it for groceries, but if I need to pick one for lunch, it's the north side. They have a hot lunch counter as well as build your own sandwiches, and a whole other section of cold salads and sides.
