Took this train from Vancouver to Banff - very very expensive and not worth the money. Silver service, food was like airline food served out of silver trays on a fold down table behind seat. They try to impress by putting silver tray in a china dish to serve and put a cloth over fold down table but very limited choice of food (two options on main course only) and mediocre at best. Train also very very delayed due to passing freight trains- told it was not uncommon. Commentary average, when we complained to head office after the trip we were told that we travelled early in the season and the guides would improve on their knowledge and confidence as the season progresses!!!! For the price we paid (over £1250 each for two days on a train and one night in a average hotel- yes you do not even sleep on train and only breakfast and lunch included in price) I expected the best service and guides in the country not novices in training. Not worth the money - take the VIA public train or go by car yourselves. We thoroughly enjoyed hiring a car from Banff and exploring Rockies but Rocky Mountaineer was supposed to be highlight of our trip - it was not.

Experience of lifetime for our family! The food, the service, the people, the stories, the pampering... All so wonderful!! Would do it again!!

The embarking and disembarking leave a lot to be desired.

Very disappointed!!! NOT like the brochure description and DEFINITELY not like the TV commercial. We had understood that food was freshly made but soon realized most had been prepared ahead of time. Mislead on fact that you could drink alcohol any time during your trip. The beverage cart only went by once at lunchtime and once in the afternoon. It shows in the brochure "bring your appetite" but meals were "just enough" and expected special snacks but consisted of nuts In the brochure, the scenery is breathtakng but there's nothing spectacular. The ad on TV shows the train go through tunnels but when you're on the train, you don't have the same experience since most times you enter the tunnels without noticing until you're in the dark going through them. Not worth the money for this trip!!!

Love the train ride, pay the extra go first class , just in case you were wondering I wasn’t sitting on the roof of the train , I was in a double story carriage , the front one with a forward facing window :)

Great place to start off the Rocky Mountaineer journey - helpful staff who make everything easy, sort the luggage out abs get your on the train - also get to see it arrive into the station with a bit of theatre on too.

We have just spent 2 days 9th and 10th of May on the rocky mountaineer gold leaf, and was one of the most amazing times of my life, we had the most amazing experience and the crew were fantastic and food amazing, a memory I will cherish forever

Always wanted to do the Rocky Mountaineer. We did West Passage to the East. Train ride was great, our host were Luke, Dani and Savannah. They were a fabulous team, very informative, funny, especially Dani, hard working team. The train ride each day, was very long, and tiring. As the track is shared, the freight trains has first deeps, so we had to step aside, the drinks kept flowing so all was good. The 2nd day from Kamloops to Lake Louise is very long we were on the train for 13 hrs, delayed at the spiral due to 3 freight trains. Scenery nice, but a lot is blocked by trees, not mountain range as thought. Hotels nice, is this trip worth the money, mmmmm yes and no. Food on the train was good overall, somethings a little disappointing. Snacks was chocolat, nuts, or pretzels. They are two settings for breakfast and two for lunch so could go awhile without eating.. Goldleaf a good choice on the menu.
