Sept18/2018.Roberts Roost on Hill 409. The first time to 409 hill.I measured the trail and calculated 2.4 km to the top. There is more than one route. The trail reminded me of maze like pattern that crisscross each other and can very easily have you going the wrong direction. The best direct route from is by the Hydro Trail from the Morrell Nature Sanctuary. From the parking lot stay to the left and fallow the orange tape.I used a GPS on my phone with MAPS ME,I have no affiliation with Maps.me,although I think the app works and does what I need.If it wasn’t for the GPS I would not have made it to the top because of trail system,as it happened,I wondered off and took the wrong trail twice. Believe me the area is not a place to get lost because of the very dense growth. The view at the top had me wishing I could have stayed over night to watch the sunset/sunrise.Maybe next time.Stay safe and have fun.

This is a very nice little hike up to a rock bluff overlooking the city of Nanaimo. Awesome little butt burner.

Beginner-moderate level hike, great view overlooking Nanaimo. Slightly confusing trails.. once you reach the powerlines, turn left and take first path on the right leading into the forest (you'll see the 2 stakes/pole) walk until the paths branch off, take "Old Stumpy", follow the written directions from Morrell Sanctuary and you will be fine. Overall took my boyfriend and I with a small dog (American Eskimo) aprox. 1 hour to reach the summit with several short water breaks. A short section along the trail (past the logging road) there is rope available to climb up. Depending on your activity level, you may not need it. Also rope to help aid nearing the top/desend. Happy/safe travels!

Beautiful, dense forest on the way up. Great view overlooking nanaimo and the ocean once you get to the top! I'd agree with the other reviewers- the trail markings left something to be desired.

Beautiful hike up. Not crazy strenuous, though there is a bit of scrambling up in a couple of spots. The view from the top towards East (Nanaimo and the Straight) is glorious!

Great hike, good primer if you haven't done Mt. Benson yet and aren't sure if you can make it. It's a decently challenging uphill hike with a great view from the top.
