We had perfect weather to explore the Extension Ridge/Abyss trail. Much of it is exposed to the sun so if it is a sunny day I definitely recommend hats, sunscreen, and lots of water. Also, this trail is somehow up hill for the entire time???!!! (It probably isn't, but it sure seems like you spend a lot of time walking up hill.) I would recommend this hike for people who are fairly nimble and don't mind watching for roots and hazards. Not great for either trail stollers or people with different abilities. It is not a flat wide path at any point beyond the trail under the powerlines. The views are spectacular, and we were serenaded by frogs at several points. (In April). Geology buffs will be thrilled by the terrain and, of course, the Abyss!

It's a simple trail for anyone in average shape, the challenge regardless is worth it for the view towards the ocean. The Abyss is quite fascinating as well, I won't add photos, I don't wanna spoil it, I want everyone to find their own interpretation. For me, it's about vulnerability, we all have cracks in our defenses, most of us anyways and I believe it's not weakness. Anyways, there is a decently steep hill at the beginning, take it slowly if you need to. The rest is basically a breeze, then you just enjoy the trail and climb up and there it is. The Abyss, have fun ? My photos were okay but you guys could probably get better shots.

Great trail. I did the 8.9 km extension loop, still a little bit of snow and such but with descent shoes it's no problem at all. The trails are nice and we'll maintained, with great views and a cool little maze type thing near the ending loop. Highly recommended.

Pretty cool hike but take some water with you! We didn't end up doing the whole thing because we forgot water. Lol. Anyways, pretty nice views along the way!

It's a good hike uphill to get to the abyss, lots of trails to follow. Some slippery spots with the rocks when they are wet wear proper foot wear.

The abyss itself is only a small portion of the hike, however, it's still very enjoyable and I imagine different times of the year would be more colorful, tons of Arbutus trees to see along these trails and a good view of mt.benson
