About Reliance Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing

With current social distancing measures in place many offices are closing or introducing new working arrangements, and the trend for flexible and remote working is only continuing to increase. If you are among the growing number of people setting up a home office, understanding its electrical requirements will help ensure you can work from home like a pro.

Whether you have a dedicated home office, or just a dedicated corner of the living room, these five tips will help you set up a safe and efficient residential workspace.

1. Determine your electrical needs

Depending on the type of work you do, your home office setup could include a number of electrical devices including computers, printers, scanners, monitors, USB receptacles, power bars, and even additional lighting.

You’ll need to make sure your home office space has plenty of electrical outlets, and that there is enough voltage to safely run your equipment. Otherwise, your workflow could be interrupted by power outages caused by an overload.

If you’re not sure whether your home’s electrical circuit can handle the extra demand, it’s best to call in a licensed electrician for help.

2. Protect your electronics from power surges

Power surges can happen several times each day. They can be caused by something as simple as turning on a hairdryer or something as dramatic as a nearby lightning strike. Most small power surges are harmless, but larger surges may cause permanent damage to sensitive electrical equipment.

To help protect your office equipment from unexpected spikes in power, consider having a licensed electrician install a whole home surge protector. Learn more about our surge protection and our other electrical services here.

3. Get your internet up to speed

Reliable, highspeed internet is a must for any efficient home office. But if you’re sharing your bandwidth with family members who are streaming videos, gaming, or enjoying video chats, your older router may not be able to keep up.

Google WiFi works with your existing network and offers a simple, affordable solution to dead zones and lags. The experts at Reliance™ can get your smart WiFi system set up in a flash, so you can get back to work.

4. Keep your electrical equipment cool

Electronics hate the heat, so don’t forget to think about adequate air circulation when you’re setting up your home office. Minimizing the risk of overheating is as simple as leaving a few inches of space around your electronic devices and making sure the vents (usually located on the back or sides) are kept clean and clear. Never stack your devices, and keep your computer and other electronic equipment away from direct sunlight.

5. Make sure you have enough light

Creating a bright, inviting workspace will help keep you motivated and productive when you are working from home. If you’re not lucky enough to have a workspace with plenty of natural light, a good desk or floor lamp should do the trick. Invest in LED light bulbs to help keep your energy consumption in check.

Initial sale went as expected, but I questioned an "additional charge" over and above the rental agreement. The salesperson said the additional charges would be required to relocate my exhaust, replace a substantial amount of plumbing, and many of my components. The only component they replaced ended up being a thermal expansion tank, which they installed incorrectly. They used all of my existing equipment, and my exhaust port. When I questioned their incompetence and the additional charges, they refused to discuss anything with me for 3 months. I called repeatedly to speak with someone in management, to be told someone would call back in 48 hours. Never called. My last frustrating call produced a return call from a manager, who would only say that they fulfilled their contract obligations, and if I was unhappy to pursue legal action. I have never dealt with a company with this poor customer service in my life. Reliance Home Comfort is the worst. I greatly regret my choice with this agreement.

Randy was an excellent technician who did a thorough inspection of our furnace an excellent repair job . He explained everything he was doing as he did it . He took his time to make sure he did not miss anything. He was the best repair technician we have dealt with since the installation of our furnace . We plan to ask for Randy if we need further assistance with our unit .

Vince was helpful, pleasant and efficient. He gave us our quote and a instalation date. The gentlemen who arrived quickly put in a new furnace and installed central air. They took the time to explain the new thermostat, etc. and left no mess. We were impressed with the team and products. We will be glad to recommend Reliance.

From the first service call to see if they can fix our 20+ year old furnace to the options of a new furnace or repair to the install of the new furnace, the guys at reliance we’re super professional and polite. They gave us time to think over our options without pressuring us, the first technician who came in Art, explained to us that furnaces aren’t usually meant to last as long as ours had, he gave us the price to repair and as well got someone from sales to contact us to give us option on buying a new furnace. We opted to buy a new furnace as we didn’t think our old one had much life left in it. The two technicians who came in to install were on time and very polite. When they were done, they asked us if we had any questions and went through what the new furnace did and answered all of our questions. Super happy with our decision to get reliance to install our new furnace!

I had an appointment with a Home Comfort Advisor on a Tuesday evening regarding a misfiring furnace that was over 20 years old, so we had an appointment set for the following Monday for a new furnace install. That Thursday evening the old furnace began to leak gas and I had notified the Reliance Home Comfort Advisor, and he had advised me to call the emergency line for the gas company and sure enough they had come and tagged my furnace out. I was left without heat until the next Monday, however, the Reliance Home Comfort Advisor went above and beyond and came and personally delivered some heaters for me to keep my house warm in the meantime. Excellent customer service and the installation technicians were courteous, diligent, and above all professional. Excellent experience with Reliance!

I am very pleased and grateful for the help from Reliance over the past several days. Within a day reliance was at our home providing us a quote. They were more than willing to work within our budget. Vince from Thunder Bay Reliance was available by phone and text when needed. He returned our texts and calls almost immediately. He was polite and well knowledgeable with the products being offered at Reliance. He helped us choose a furnace that was best suited for our house size and budget. I would recommend reliance to friends and family. His team installed our furnace in several hours. Our furnace had failed and it was very cold outside, he was able to expedite the process of having our furnace installed. We are very grateful for that.
