About Pyramid Concrete & Consulting Ltd

After working in the concrete industry on some of Edmonton’s most iconic buildings in the early 1980s, Brad received his Alberta Journeyman’s designation in 1982. His entrepreneurial aspirations drove Brad into a partnership-based concrete company, which he co-operated for ten years.

In the early 1990s, Brad chose to venture out on his own, incorporating Pyramid Concrete & Consulting Ltd. As an industry innovator, Brad has been deeply involved in the education and progression of the concrete industry for over 40 years. He is a two-term presiding officer for the Alberta Government Apprenticeship program and was instrumental in the revival of the Concrete Finishing Apprenticeship program.

Additionally, for many years, Brad instructed the Concrete Finishing Apprenticeship program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Brad also co-authored the Federal Governments Occupational Analysis for Concrete Finishers in Ottawa. His vast experience and expertise have been called upon to draft documents and exams currently used Canada-wide for Federal Red-Seal training programs.

Brad currently assists in the training and examining for the American Concrete Institute Concrete Flatwork Finisher & Technician accreditation.

I had a driveway, sidewalk, and landing done and also a new garage slab put in. The estimator who came was very knowledgeable and assured me my needs would be met. The price was fair. The completed job is excellent. The young man who broke the old cement and hauled it away did an outstanding job. Overall I am very pleased.

I have worked with Brad and Pyramid crews for a few decades already. Top quality work on projects from driveways to million dollar plazas. Flat work, decorative concrete and parkade structural work are their specialties. My structural engineers are happy and as a General Contractor they make my life easier and make me look good to Owners.

Hired them to do our backyard patio and front sidewalk. Everyone we dealt with was very knowledgeable and courteous. They were very open to us being around as they did the work, answering questions and ensure everything was done the way we wanted it to be done. It was a 3 day project and in between the yard was left a little messy with tools and stakes all over but they did a great job on the final clean. Would definitely recommend.

Had a terrible experience with Pyramid, we had some garage/driveway repairs done and we are back to square one with the issues we originally had. They offer a lot of fancy excuses, and would not even take the time to come in person and see the results of the poor workmanship/product they provided. We started to have issues just months after completion and were continually feed excuses. We were told it’s structurally sound and it was our fault for what type of material our house is built on. We chose a professional who would be able to understand the challenges of concrete in Alberta and would plan according...epic fail! Stay far away from these guys unless you enjoy being taken advantage of.

Timing and scheduling is important on a home addition that leaked at the foundation footing. Concrete sidewalk along garage, plus the side entry pad and patio area all had to come out before weeping tile contractor could start. Very wet season and over busy tile companies left us at end of season. Phone my regular concrete placers; one retired and left all to his son who never said no but forever bumped us, 2nd wished he could help if only the job was bigger, and the last concrete placer was reluctant to work with Covid 19 virus unknowns. So phone 7; 5 return calls, 3 come out and 2 give and estimates that are apart too far in quoting. 21 placers later I have picked 3 close in quotes. Choose the middle one with good recommendations and he cancelled 10 days before pour. I am a retired house builder and use the same trades as Ace, Birkholtz, Managen and to be with out quality concrete placer should not happen. Went professional picking a larger company with residential, commercial, industrial experience. Best choice was talking to Cole with Pyramid Concrete. Cole was always positive and never did I hear; can't, not sure, what do you mean, but rather lets try this, we can work it in, no problem, even though I was forced to move the date back and Pyramid had to adjust. Great job ! One day tear out, next two day weeping tile with Delta foundation wrap and backfill. Forth day form and fifth day pour exposed aggregate with very close match to original aggregate. Experienced, Professional, Skilled, Confident, Attitude, = Positive Result. Thank You Pyramid !

Over the last few years, Pyramid has done work on and off in the parkade of our condo downtown. They recently completed another project and we were really impressed with the work they did! The crew was very courteous with owners and accommodated new parking for those who were displaced. They finished the project on time and the clean-up was immaculate. I would definitely recommend to any condo corp. looking for concrete work to be completed.

In my family's experience, quality and professionalism are not words that may be associated with Pyramid Concrete & Consulting. I was deeply disappointed by the response I received today, July 27th, 2017, from Mr. Brad Shandro, Operations Manager & Owner, in regards to my ongoing concerns associated with the concrete work completed in front of our home. As a young female professional, I most certainly did not appreciate the inappropriate tone and belittlement that Mr. Shandro conveyed throughout the conversation. This is not the response that should be received by any customer regardless of gender, education, profession or Mr. Shandro's own personal sentiments or frustrations regarding the nature of his customer(s)' complaints. Mr. Shandro grandiosely stated to me repeatedly that "this was [his] world [of concrete, presumably]" and our concerns were solely of an aesthetic nature and as previously he continued to state that these are items that would "only [be of] concern to us". This project was called "the worst job of the season" by his own employees who themselves urged us not to make payment. In fact, two of his employees I understood from Mr. Shandro were unfortunately let go by him as a consequence of the finishing being so poor in front of our home. We received a discount on the project with a written agreement to have Pyramid Concrete & Consulting revise the work thereafter, which to date has not been done and as I understood from today's conversation to be abandoned. Mr. Shandro, I have chosen to write this review to share not only my experience but also the photos (timestamped) of your work thereafter completion, which you to date continue to unapologetically stand by and for which I am shocked and deeply disappointed by. Your comments to me today on the phone were quite frankly disgusting and unprofessional and your hanging up of the telephone receiver may only be described as childish. Moreover, as you know I treated not only yourself but each and every one of your employees with significant respect and as guests in our home. In a gesture of good faith, I am hopeful that by this review you may take some time to revisit your actions and I look forward to your professional response by email. As you know, these concerns do need to be addressed as we had discussed. Both our concerns and my experience are well outlined above. As such, I will be neither responding nor engaging in any further dialogue by means of this public forum though I remain hopeful that I may share a positive experience going forward. Further photos may be found on Yelp or HomeStars.

Pyramid completed a small job at my dad’s house and we are super happy with the work. They completed a sidewalk from the driveway to the front door to get rid of some tripping hazards in the old concrete. The job looks great and was completed quickly! The crew was great and very respectful. If we need any more work done we will be giving them a call!
