About Protech Gasfitting
These units are quite popular. Most are the low profile which hang fairly close to the ceiling and have a fan which circulates the air. Most of these units have what are called power vented chimneys.
There is a small fan which pushes the flue gases out the chimney.
The natural vent b-vent unit heaters basically don’t exist any more.
Soon you will not be allowed to install them so most suppliers don’t even stock them or manufacturers don’t make them anymore.
The power vent chimney can usually vent directly out the side wall or through the roof on a detached garage.
If you have an attached garage you most likely would not be able to vent it through the roof as a b-vent must be 2 feet higher than any roof line within ten feet horizontal distance.
As with most homes with an attached garage, the home is a two storey so this would be impossible to vent through the roof and maintain the proper clearances.
In almost all cases in this situation the chimney must vent through the sidewall.
The main advantages of this heater are that it can heat your garage up very quickly.
The fan circulates and heats up the air very quickly.
Some people like to turn the heat right off when they are not in the garage so a heater which heats the air with a fan can heat the garage up quickly.
These heaters come in many different sizes for many different size garages.
Reznor is another common heater for garages. We can sell these as well, but have found, in our experience that the Modine Hot Dawg has proven to be a much more reliable unit.
We have only experienced a 1% call back rate for warranty calls (1 out of every 100 we sell) on the Hot Dawg Heaters.

After discussing the issue with Protech they were completely honest and told me i actually needed a simple part (worth $25!) and not a brand new garage furnace. They went beyond my expectations to make the job look tidy and clean. I expected pipes hanging in awkward places and Kevan was able to really look for solutions and make the pipes almost invisible (especially under my deck). I really appreciated that extra attention. I also appreciated the call I received that the job was done when I wasn’t able to be there for the final hook-up. Also, when I discussed the great job they did with the city inspector, he said these guys are one of the best in the city. I would recommend Protech to anyone.

We were having additional gas line run to our deck for a space heater and a fire table. Sterling was the technician who came and did our initial quote, then I had to do some prep work and he returned at the scheduled time and completed the job.
Very professional, courteous and gave me ideas if we continue to work towards our "backyard oasis" while staying within a budget.
Protech pricing was less that others who quoted the job (ATCO was 2.5x Protech price).
When City inspector reviewed the work he said it was very well done and there were no issues and passed inspection.
If I could recommend anything to anyone....PLAN AHEAD! This entire job would have been much easier had we planned a gas line at both sides of our deck BEFORE we installed it.
Thanks again to Sterling and Darlene for a great experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Protech again.

I got a quote emailed within minutes of hanging up the phone, appointment booked a few minutes later and the whole install went smoothly. Overall the whole crew was very professional and Darlene (front line staff) was a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommend them. Their price quote was right in the middle compared to other quotes I got.

Started with an online quote request through Darlene, which was answered quickly and professionally with excellent resources and useful information. The on-site quote was done safely and distanced. Showed up on time to the minute.
Through delays in appliance delivery (from a different company) and rescheduling appointments, Darlene was courteous and helpful and got us an installation appointment as soon as possible.
Jesse was our on-site technician for both quote and install. Perhaps one of the most efficient, professional, and polite journeymen I’ve ever worked with on a home project. He was accommodating to my requests for placements and went above and beyond to make the install as smooth as possible.
Their quote came in 30% below three other companies we had quotes from. Would have gladly paid the additional 30% for the quality of work and entirely positive experience.

They were on time for their appointment and were extremely professional thru the entire process. City of Calgary inspection was booked by them as well and got a the actual inspection + sign off done within a few days. I would definitely recommend them to anyone thinking about it!

We used Protech repeatedly on projects throughout the pandemic renovations. I am happy to say that I will use them for any future work coming, no questions asked. We originally booked them to get the gas line for our fireplace last fall and again for gas range hookup this summer. Very responsive, quote was great and service top notch. The installers are co-owners so they truly care not just about the work they do, but to protect the environment around. We have hard wood flooring and whenever they showed up they prepared the place, did the work and cleaned swept after. We also were doing fireplace DIY and the guy gave some advice for my homeowner fireplace inspection so I can pass it with flying colors. I do recommend them any time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I used Protech Gasfitting to install a new natural gas line to our BBQ. The service level right from the initial phone call and quote was amazing. They are all very detailed and knowledgeable but also just very customer focused.
Once Sterling arrived on-site he walked me through the entire scope and let me know about any potential issues. My house had quite a few right angles on the outside on the way to the BBQ but the finished pipe was snug up against the house on all points and looked fantastic in the end. I was fully prepared for it to look like an eyesore so pleasantly surprised that it actually looked clean.
After the install he walked me through the pressure test the inspector would do and when I would be able to fire up the BBQ.
Just a top notch company all around!
