About PETDERM - Calgary Pet Dermatology Centre

Dr. Valentine was born and raised in Calgary and completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001.

After completing a rotating small animal internship at Ontario Veterinary College in 2002, Becky spent several years as an emergency veterinarian before returning to school to complete a residency in dermatology at the OVC. It was during her residency that she came to understand the profound impact that skin diseases and allergies can have on a pet and their family. She became board-certified in Veterinary Dermatology in 2015, and has made a huge difference in the lives of pets and their owners ever since.

Becky’s interests include the treatment of antibiotic resistant skin infections and the diagnosis and management of allergic dermatitis in small animals and horses.

Once in a room you have a lot of different ways to help calm your dog and they have some allergy friendly treats on hand for you to share with your pup. Dr. Valentine is the best in city. She is professional, empathetic, and stays current in dog science. If you're going in for your first time make sure to also ask to have Sienna, she'll help your pet feel at home, a great communicator, and looks out for your pets.

Our fur child left there happy and so did we. Followup appointments are booked. To own an animal is a life commitment and their health is as important to them as us. I highly recommend Dr Becky Valentine and her staff. Very happy that we are getting the help we were so desperately looking for.

Our dog was SO itchy all the time and we were desperate to find out what was causing it so we could manage it. We opted to do a full allergy screening and, while it's not cheap, with the information we got we've been able to get our dog virtually itch free. The immunotherapy prescribed already seems to be helping. Dr. Valentine is clearly insanely well versed on all things dermatological with pets and I can't recommend her enough. She is able to so clearly communicate the underlying causes of allergic responses in dogs and remains up to date on all recent studies so her clients get the best possible care. We couldn't be happier with the service we've received from PETDERM and recommend them without hesitation.

I work in the industry so I know that treating dermatologic issues in pets is a slow process and can be incredibly frustrating, but Dr. Valentine and her staff are patient, kind, knowledgeable, and available to support you every step of the way. My cat has never looked better, and he's noticeably happier and more comfortable than he has been in years. Everybody from the receptionists, assistants, technologists, and Dr. Valentine herself are lovely. I would not trust anyone else with his care.

Yes, specialized veterinary (or any veterinary) services are expensive, but PETDERM provides good value for what you get and are very comparable to any specialized service I have experienced elsewhere. Our Great Dane has seen Dr. Valentine since he went into emergency at 5 months old with unknown severe symptoms (he's 5.5 years old now). After seeing multiple specialists in that moment we are so thankful we came across her. She has so much knowledge and a real passion for what she does. Even when reactions seemed puzzling with no obvious rhyme or reason she worked with us every step of the way, always being so present and trying so hard to help find a positive solution that works best for the animal, the owner, and with financial restrictions. We are SO grateful for PETDERM for giving our boy a better life and for their on-going support. The PETDERM facility itself is also a great set-up, comfortable for the animal and owner, spacious and middle-ground location within the city. Worth every penny in my opinion.

We don’t have any dermatologists in my province and I know how invaluable veterinary specialists are. The team was super accommodating to the long distance and we are currently on our fourth month of immunotherapy. Dr Valentine really knows her stuff! We are so lucky to have her expertise as we navigate and manage Bennie’s (many) allergies. Allergies can be so stressful and frustrating for both owners and pets - but we’ve been much more hopeful, comfortable, and confident since making our way to Petderm. Don't be deterred if there is a long wait for non-urgent assessment, she is worth it. Dr. Valentine has maintained her energetic, compassionate and innovative approach to complex skin and allergy issues since I first met her 10 years ago and she changed my distressed and itchy dog's life. When my dog had a medical emergency this year we found her again and she was able to help us manage his itch post-surgery and adapt treatment to better support his immunity as he ages. Thank you to Dr. Valentine and her bright staff for the kindness, communication and efficient outcomes. Because of your care early in his life, my fluffy exuberant weirdo has spent his life being healthy and doing dog stuff never knowing he has a debilitating skin issue.
