Pre-employment Centre

The Osborne Village Resource Centre is a non-profit pre-employment resource center dedicated to assisting clients on their journey to finding meaningful employment. We assist clients who are unemployed, under-employed, and/or those making a career change. Our main goal is to help clients find meaningful work not just a job.

Opening the Doors to Possibility

Overall, I am so incredibly grateful to have met you and connect with the Osborne Village Resource Centre to assist me on this job search journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Betty, for all you do and being the wonderful person you are! Your program overall is a hidden gem that needs far more attention and support from governments and the community at large, simply amazing is what always comes to mind when I hear the name Osborne Village Resource Centre.

Thank you so much for your help with my resume. You gave me several wording options for my skills, and our conversations really helped me to transition from a chronological to a skills based resume. I recently had two interviews and I have finally been offered a job! I really appreciate the time and attention that you gave to my resume creation so that I can start working again.

What I got from Career Counselling:

When the baggage of life becomes a burden, and you just want to fit into a new career, the last thing you need is to get stuck on "what might have been." It was useful to have to help in identifying the elements of my work history that meshed with the posted job positions, and letting go of the parts that are not relevant to the position. You worked with me to reframe my sense of what I had to offer. Very much appreciated. Thanks

I am very grateful for the work we did together on charting a course forward for me. I had always felt that I did not know what I wanted to do with my career. And this was my largest barrier to pursuing any career development other than what was offered to me. I do not think that is the case anymore. Through the process we went through, I learned that I want a career where I can help others, be it through non-profit work, training and development, or perhaps management in an organization that is ethically run. The other work we did will definitely be helpful as I pursue this, but learning what I want in my career stands out as the valuable part of what we worked on.

Thank you again for working with me. Once I figure out what exactly I need to jump into the sort of organizations I'm looking into, I will follow-up with you and perhaps you can help me figure out how best to go about getting that. Best Wishes

OVRC has been an integral part of helping me to find employment after an 8 year hiatus from the work force to raise a family. Betty and John helped me put together a resume and boosted my confidence that ultimately got me the job I wanted, not just the first job that came available. This is such an important service, and I am so grateful it was available to me.

I did career counselling, got resume help, and did nearly every job search workshop available at Osborne Village Resource Centre. I can say, without a doubt, I couldn't have gotten through my job search without their help. I learned valuable skills and knowledge. I increased my understanding and awareness of what the employer is looking for, what I was looking for, was able to analyse my struggles and strengths from previous job searches, and I understood the process much better. Everyone was very kind, helpful, understanding, flexible, and supportive. It was also a huge help to be around other people at the workshops going through similar struggles or journeys. I felt less alone, got support and encouragement, and the other attendees were also able to give me ideas and help me network as well. Because of Osborne Village Resource Centre, despite my extreme anxiety around interviews, I was able to put myself out there, I knew how to prepare and present my answers, and was able show my best self. In the end I received a job offer from every interview I attended.

They are very helpful with assisting you in making a resume, explaining it along the way. Betty is very comical in teaching you and makes it easy to grasp concepts. Can't wait to go back and work with them again in finding a job.

I went to them not knowing how to adjust me resume and cover letter to fit the job I wanted. But thanks to the experienced staff they were able to help me organize my jumbled words into a professional resume & cover letter. I highly recommend then if you need help finding future employment.

If you need help with your existing resume and cover, like I did, see these people. The first try with my reworked cover and resume got me an interview for a great job. I would post the outcome of the interview, but I don't know yet either. I couldn't give the OVRC a higher rating if I do get the job, because they've already earned 5 Stars and they did their part.

If ANYONE tells you not to find a job while waiting to deal with with ESM and funding DO NOT LISTEN. This is for those who need to upgrade education from grade 12 and then get into college/university. The communication is absolutely terrible I often heard "don't worry we know what you need to do" but a lot of integral I formation is not passed on. Bless those who are about to do "learning to learn online" after being passed to ESM its basically a complete redo from the VISA Top 5 and it is not enjoyable. I am more screwed now than I was before.

I would highly recommend contacting them for help with resume/cover letters or even interview preparations. Lisa was very friendly and she made sure to get my input every step of the way with my resume, as well as following up with my job-search process afterwards. Applying for jobs after making changes to my resume and getting a call back was a real confidence booster so I’d definitely recommend!

I had the pleasure of working with Kristina L, she definitely knows her stuff. She helped me with all aspects, resume, cover letter, and so much more. She took the time to make sure I understood each process that we went through, and also would play devils advocate when helping me think outside the box. I would highly recommend ovrc to anyone having trouble finding work.
