Great experience with our child

If I could give ZERO stars I would. WORST CLINIC EVER!!! Every single appointment we have had with this clinic has been very unprofessional. From little things like them ALWAYS calling my husbands phone 1st (and asking to speak to me) even though I repeatedly asked them to call MY PHONE number .. to the bigger issues which I will describe. 1st appointment we went in with a resident at first and than had to wait ONE HOUR in the small room until Dr.Kouwenburg finally decided to make an apperance (which anyone with a 3 year old knows all too well how frustrating and challenging that is). In between our 1st and 2nd appointments the clinic was Supposed to send out a referral for my son to have his hearing checked, they asked me to call them if I did not hear anything back in one months time. I called them in a month to see what was going on ... turns out they FORGOT to send out the referral!!!! Before the 2nd appointment I called ahead weeks before to make sure they had the report they needed from another medical professional so I was not wasting time and gas money to drive all the way to Nanaimo for nothing. Turns out .. I drove all the way to Nanaimo for NOTHING. After this appointment they told me that they would fill out some paper work I needed ... fast forward to over a month later and I still don't have the paper work. They did end up doing the paper work NO charge because they FORGOT all about it. Now our FINAL appointment .. we drove 30 min to get to our appointment ON TIME. When we arrive she tells me my appointment was at 9:30am (it was not it was booked for 10am). I NEVER book appointments in Nanaimo for 9:30am as I have other kids in school and I need to drop them off in the morning. Once I said that, some girl in the back spoke up and said they called me and asked to change my appointment from 10am as they had a resident in today and that I agreed but said I would be 5 min late.... NEVER HAPPENED!!! They went and asked the Doctor if she could see me any way (they had zero patients in the waiting room and maybe ONE car in the parking lot besides mine) and came back to say "unfortunately we can't see you today". I left unbelievably angry with the clinic, they never ONCE apologized for their actions and in the end tried to place all the blame on me for missing the final appointment. You should be able to TRUST your child's pediatrician and feel like they take their health very seriously. Each and every appointment felt like we did not matter at all .. even down to the point of the Clinic actually forgetting to complete paper work and forgetting to send a referral for medical treatment. I can't afford to drive 30 min to Nanaimo for NOTHING and my kid needs to see his doctor obviously. NEVER take your kids to this clinic .. do your self a favor and wait for the extra time for a referral to a better clinic.

The paediatrician we saw was dismissive and unwilling to listen to our concerns. Very disappointing to have a professional tell me in the most condescending tone possible that “there is this thing... called play dates” as though I had not tried everything possible to support my child. The paediatrician also informed us that children on the ASD spectrum have no desire to form connections with other people. I was shocked to hear her outdated perspective. I hope that others have a better experience than we did. The other paediatricians at this clinic do seem to have good reviews, perhaps it would be best to request one of them.

To be completely honest I'm not generally the sort of person to hop on Google and review a person or place but I felt incredibly compelled to share my experience with Dr. Jane Pegg in hopes it can help someone else. We had been experiencing symptoms with our son since about age 3 that seemed explainable by other diagnoses but we kept feeling something wasn't right so we pushed to get an appointment with a pediatrician and it happened to be Dr. Jane Pegg. From the moment we arrived she started asking questions and doing little tests with our now 8 year old son that, to me, seemed irrelevant; but she definitely knew what she was doing. An MRI was ordered because of the headaches he complained of and it happened incredibly quickly. Our results came 2 days later and he was diagnosed with a rare condition that required immediate Neurosurgery. It was an incredibly traumatic month for us all but the surgery went great and all of the potential negative side-effects our son may have faced had we not caught this in time are completely erased from our lives. Thank you Dr. Jane Pegg for listening to us and helping us to figure this out. We really have no-one to thank but you for helping us reach a diagnosis. She is an incredibly intelligent Pediatrician and knows what she's doing. I highly recommend her if you have a gut feeling there is something wrong with your child that no-one else seems to be able to figure out. Thank you Dr. Jane Pegg for everything <3
