Great place to familiarize yourself with the origins of Montreal. Multiple focuses in one museum was nice. Small exhibit on local artist, larger focus on original settlement and growth of the area until modern times. I particularly liked the original sewer system as the lighting made for a cool experience.

This was one of the most interesting museum experiences I’ve ever had. Their exhibits were super interesting and well detailed, the progression of Montreals development was very fascinating and definitely well laid out. It is a self led tour, so it was a little overwhelming, but other than that it was an amazing experiences.

This is an amazing place, with so much interesting history. It is actually located on the exact spot of a lot of the history it talks about. The room with the glass floor so you can see the old ruins underneath the building is incredible. Walking through the old sewers was my favourite! The only downside is that the layout is so confusing. At first we couldn’t find the exhibits, and then once we did we got lost trying to leave.

Had a great educational experience! I thought we could finish up in 1-2 hours but end up exploring more than 3.5 hours. Their cinematic show about the history is beyond great. Sounds system are from Bose. No wonder it is good. Highly recommend it! Great educational experience about origin of Montreal, France and British influences. Additional features about history of pirates and circuses

A great way to immerse yourself into the history of Montreal. The museum rests on the site of the city’s original settlement - the excavation of which is visible underfoot. There are various artifacts and miniatures on display that walk you through the history from a European and Native perspective. It also includes many temporary exhibits on various topics and eras. We saw the Viking exhibit during our visit which was very fascinating.

Decent place to spend a couple of hours. Most of the focus is on the history of Montreal. Pretty cool they've the actual ruins from the first settlers. The Viking display was interesting. But it relied heavily mostly on graphics and recreated actors and not too many artifacts.

I stopped in Montreal just for this museum and it was such a good choice. They integrated digital projections onto the historic infrastructure beautifully. The displays were captivating, fully bilingual and easy to understand, with silhouettes used to effectively display how fragments fit into the bigger picture. Good use of lighting and music to set a very restful, nearly meditative tone, in some of the spaces. This allowed me to slow down, rest my weary feet, then continue with the next exhibit. The entire museum took approximately 3-1/2 hours.
