Re reviews from Calgary (Eva, Clara, Lucie, Mark). Never sign a policy with an insurance company out of your province especially those with stunning claim disputes. Why? When dispute, how can you deal with an Ontario insurance company when you live in other provinces? After seeing the photo and video of the fire in Calgary, I am shocked Max only agrees to repair and not to tear down and rebuilt. Why an insurance company can stand firm just to repair such a severely damaged house? It is because when you are thousand miles away from the insurance company, you put yourself in a very disadvantage position. The insurance company can easily take advantage of the insured. Imagine after a fire, home owners are very stressful and extremely vulnerable. If the insurance company treats you unfairly, what can you do? Do you have the time, energy, money to fight with an insurance company located in another province when you are already so exhausted by the fire? Max is fully aware that you have too many things to take care of after the fire and you don't have too much energy left to fight with an insurance company far away from your home. Max knows the huge distance between you and Max makes you have no choice but to accept whatever Max offers you. I admire the lady in Calgary who stands up and fight when she is exploited so much by Max after the fire. If you are looking for an insurance company and you are living out of Ontario, you’d better follow up closely the fate of the lady who is having a fire claim dispute with Max. Her experience tells you what you are expecting when signing a policy with Max I hope the fire victim in Calgary can update us the final settlement with Max. Her story means a lot to people who are considering to sign a policy with Max Insurance and not living in Ontario.

Terrible company. After being "insured" with them for years, they denied my families claim for our wind and hail damaged roof. They said the roof is too old, had I known that initially I wouldn't have insured with them from the start. Too make matters worse they then decided not to renew our policy WITHOUT NOTICE leaving us very little time to find a new insurance policy. Avoid these scammers!

Focus on 1-Star reviews. For 5-stars reviews, watch out if there is a big jump in 5-stars all of a sudden. Take Oct 6, 2021 as an example, within 6 hours, Max got 4 people leaving 5-stars (Janet, Pamela, Marielle, Mark) (total number of reviews at that time is only 26 including above 4 people) (Out of above 4 people, Mark rated 5-stars to 4 companies within an hour. Two of them are located in Auckland, New Zealand and the other two are in Calgary. My question is - Where is Mark Ma living right now? Interesting :) Also Denis Boisselle gave 5 stars at end of Nov, 2021 and he mentioned the incident happened in 2019. Usually we leave review right after the incident. Why Max customers behave so special leaving 5 stars TWO years AFTER the incident ???? Anyway, look for 1-star reviews. Consider how likely the story is real. If the story sounds reliable, it is what will happen to you if you insured with Max as it is very unlikely the same company will treat the insured differently. For example, there are 2 reviews related to flooding. Chazz gave 1 star. Janet March gave 5 stars. Janet put [staff] next to her name. To me, I will just ignore staff / broker reviews as business partners reviews mean nothing to me. On top of that, Janet review sounds interesting. She did not mention if Max replaced her floor or not. She just said “they assisted us through the entire process”. To me, assisting customers through the entire process is the most basic thing any customer would expect from a company. I am curious why it makes Janet feel so touched to write a review and gave 5 stars to Max. Strange! I am not a staff of any insurance company. That's why I am more interested in the review by Chazz because this is what you, an ordinary people insured with Max Insurance, will get if your house is flooding. According to Chazz, Max did not fulfill the flood claim plus Max cancelled his policy without explanation. Moreover, the policy cancellation occurred in 2017 but Chazz left a review in 2020 (a year ago) saying Max still not yet reimburse him $275 due to Max early cancellation of the policy. That’s ridiculous. If Chazz had such a terrible experience, what makes you believe that you will be an exception and won't experience the same as Chazz if insured with Max. In short, not all reviews can help you make good insurance decision. Watch out when you read reviews especially 5-stars ones. By the way, Mark Ma review reminds me one thing. My warmest warning - Never ever get a policy out of your province. If things go sour and you need to deal with your insurance company in court, things would be very complicated. For example, if you are living in Calgary, don't get your policy with an insurance company situated in Ontario. Stick to insurance company located in your Province.

We went with Max Insurance for our home insurance because of the cheaper rate. You get what you pay for. Poor customer service. Slow response time. Avoid this company. Pay a little more for a better company if you can.

When canceling my policy they would not refund the prorated amount. Kept about 15% with no explanation. When I asked broker, his reply was, what did you expect they get every $ they can. Called the co. directly, they refused to talk to me, bunch of crooks. Never will they get a penny from me, people beware. FYI, canceled with westland, got a full refund, no excuses!!!

THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU SIGN ANY POLICY WITH “Max Insurance”. Fire happened on July 18, 2021 midnight in Sherwood, Calgary & was reported by CTV, Global News, CBC. Fire started at the home in the middle & affected homes at its left & right, causing significant damage. Insurance company at the left immediately agreed to TEAR DOWN AND RE-BUILD. Yet, “Max Insurance” only agreed to REPAIR the damaged parts. When you look for an insurance company, you want a peace of mind when accidents happen. However, for home owner insured with “Max Insurance”, all she got after the fire was frustration. After the trauma of losing everything in the fire, she still has to pick herself up to look for a lawyer and an engineering company to help her deal with “Max Insurance”. When you choose an insurance company, don’t be persuaded or convinced by the comments made by the brokers. Don’t switch your insurance company only because some offer you lower premium. When accident does happen, what matter most is how the insurance company deals with claims efficiently, putting the interests of the clients in the first place. If an insurance company puts money-saving on top of your well-being and peace of mind, forget this insurance company. When the time you need the insurance company most and the insurance company TOTALLY DISAPPOINTS YOU, you will suffer a devastating blow, living like hell. This is what my friend, who insured with “Max Insurance”, is experiencing now.

Absolutely the worst insurer out there!! Fire started at the side of the home causing complete roof system failure and partial damage to the side. Contents were damaged from smoke, debris and firefighting efforts. Communication was horrible from the beginning and said adjuster offered only a $5000 advance for a family of 12 to replace clothing, additional living expenses etc. We were then "told" all clothing and bedding was to be sent off for cleaning without further consultation. Max Insurances' adjuster got "their" company-approved contractor to complete repairs based on the adjuster non-existent scope of work, just days after the loss. The "Company-approved" restoration company started stripping interior finishes, leaving walls partially insulated because "this wall wasn't wet" and "no water should have gotten in there". We questioned the quality of workmanship, and asked for an engineers report and scope of work, for other contractors to quote on. The answers were "no report is needed, we know what needs fixing" and "we'll pull a permit later, these things take time". As far as we know, Max had a second contractor quote on the Building Restoration without actually visiting the site at all, which was presented to us and was fairly similar priced and had a vaguely stated estimate. Clothing and content items that were returned after "cleaning", shrunk in size, compared to the original, were rough in texture, had a foul smell or were not washed at all. We disputed these with the adjuster but he just said he'll "take a look". Instruments that were in the dwelling, especially acoustical, were damaged due to being exposed to high humidity and water, were returned also. Rent was only paid for 9 or 10 months following the fire loss and after was deemed unnecessary, yet we they didn't provide proper procedures or solutions. After disputing with the adjuster about cost and damaged items, he made himself unavailable, playing "hard-ball" because we disagreed. Max Insurance and their representative have dealt in bad faith and were biased. This so called adjuster should be stripped of his insurance license. This whole process has been a disgrace and caused trauma to our family. As of today, it is 2 years with an unresolved and unpaid loss, declared by Max Insurance to be an overly excessive and inflated claim.
