★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 1st and last time I’ll ever go into the Mad Hatter Bookstore in West Kelowna.
Looking for a specific book- knew I wouldn’t be in the store for more than a few minutes...especially because I had my dogs in the car.
Because I had the dogs, and it’s summer, I left my car running (remote start) with the air conditioning on high. (Again...I was not in the store more than a few minutes..not like I was taking my time browsing with my car aimlessly running)...One of the employees came up and asked if that was my car running and said “And why would you do such a thing?” I told her because it’s fairly warm out and my dogs are in it. She said you could have left your windows down with disgust in her voice. To which I replied I would rather not have them stolen. Not to mention that even with the windows down, it’s fairly hot inside of the car.
It’s really none of her business..
Damned if I do, damned if I don’t...??

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I purchased a rare poetry pamphlet from them and was charged $20.94 to ship it within BC. It was stuffed into a padded mailer with no other protection and the results can be seen below. In David Mason's book "The Pope's Bookbinder" he writes "The packing of books is not only the first thing an apprentice is taught, it is one of the most important. Real booksellers believe that they have a moral responsibility to ensure that a client receives a book in exactly the state it was in when it was on his shelf.”

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place has one of the fastest shipping and best customer service I have experienced at any store. Big box book store chains cannot compete with the Mad Hatter Book Store. I was looking for a book online and found that the Mad Hatter Book Store had it. Since I was within the same province but not driving distance, I e-mailed them for a price including shipping. They got back to me within 15 minutes. After a few back and forth e-mails, they sent the book to the post office within the hour. Amazing! No other place has the customer service that this book store has. I definitely will buy from Mad Hatter Book Store again. Next time I make a trip out to the Okanagan I will certainly make a stop here.
