★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent Ice Cream! It was worth the time I waited in line. There was a large selection of flavors which were posted on a sign board outside the store. Staff were very helpful and did a good job in trying to keep the line moving.
It definitely takes you back in time. The old building (1898 I believe), old freezers, and old style ice cream dippers. All that was missing was the white uniforms and soda jerk hats.
You can buy a small container of your favorite flavor(s) to take home.
If you near Cochrane, MacKay's is a must stop

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Oh wow! I think it beats all ice cream places I've ever been to! It was highly recommended by someone who lived in Calgary. Flew in from Toronto and got a rent a car to go to try out McKay's en route to Banff from Calgary.
Don't miss the opportunity to try it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A visit is to Cochrane is not complete without a stop by Mackay's Ice Cream Shop.
Coming here is like stepping back in time during the the Old West days. This building is gorgeous and really adds to the experience of being able to order high quality Ice-cream that is made right there!
You enter in the door on the left hand side and flow right through quite quickly to get your Ice-cream ordered and scooped. I recommend the Waffle Cones! The kids sugar cones seemed a little bit stale or hard.
The Ice-cream was creamy and delicious! The sign with all the flavours can be a little daunting but the staff are there to help you out with picking the perfect flavour. Just describe what you like and they'll match you instantly. They really know their stuff. It would be great if the flavours were on display to see though.
Once you have your Ice-cream you leave from the right hand door so there is no getting in people's way. A very efficient flow to their system.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The ice cream here is pretty good but the portion size is absolutely pathetic especially given the price. You are literally given twice as much ice cream per scoop at Made by Marcus or Village for the same price. If you are in the area, this is probably worth going to but if you are on the way back from mountains, this is not the worth the detour.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Many and many times we are here we always buy more and eat more why? Because so so delicious ? ? in Alberta I have been many places and tried but only this place my family love the most. We are ok for waiting a long line because waiting is a happy with family.
Oh,by the way my favourite is durian ( sầu riêng) yum yum creamy but not for Someone doesn’t like smells like stinky ? ? also they don’t sale durian in a cone only in a container ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In search of Ice Cream, we ended up at Mckay’s in Cochrane. The flavours were posted outside of the outlet so its easy to pick n choose before entering. Upon entering there was a brief history and map of Cochrane which appealed me.
Server at the counter was super friendly and she helped out with choosing the ice cream flavours. We ordered Salted Caramel, Pistachio Almond (Hallmark) and Butterscotch Ripple. The quality of ice cream was amazing! I loved it. Sweetness was appropriate and well balanced. Salted Caramel flavour was extremely good. I tried Pistachio Almond, it tasted very close to actual dry fruit.
Highly recommended. I’m definitely going back again.
