Located in the heart of historic Cochrane, Horse Creek puts the emphasis on buying local. Our candy, chocolate and gifts are the highest quality available and are locally sourced whenever possible. The store pays tribute to Alberta’s ranching heritage. Step across our threshold and step back in time to experience a true old-fashioned candy store.

This store has had numerous identities…..a doctor’s office, lawyer’s office, chocolate shop, country store, pharmacy, the town newspaper (“Cochrane This Week”), “Traditions” gift shop and now Horse Creek Heritage Candy and Gifts. The current owners purchased the store in July 2019 and continue to add new and exciting gifts, candies and other delicious delights on a continual basis. Stop on by, it will likely have new products each visit.

The charming exterior reminded me of an old fashioned nostalgic candy shop and we were immediately drawn to go inside. Upon entering I was in awe at the rustic almost log cabin decor bejeweled with a huge variety of tempting sweets! We were warmly welcomed by one of their employees who took the time to explain how most of the items in the shop are locally made or at minimum, Canadian made. As we browsed to the back of the store, I was impressed with all of the Canadian made gifts such as rustic table linens, knitted items, glass art, puzzles, crazy soft lounge pants etc, etc. The products for sale here are amazing, but the staff are even more amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful but not pushy, incredible. On our drive back to Calgary we were like "What just happened?" We both agreed that it was by far the best customer service and shopping experience we have ever experienced. We thought "Are all the people really this nice in Cochrane?" Then a guy in a truck courteously let us into a lane we needed to get into in traffic outside the store. Faith in humanity - RESTORED! You ladies have a great thing going out there. Thank you so much for the awesome experience. If I could I would rate you 10 stars!! :)

Sharon is always friendly and thoughtful, I enjoy talking to someone like her who onows her treats! And not only do I love this store and candy it's the best in town because they have very unique candies. Every time I come in they have a new chocolate bar. That's the main reason I come to this store is for the very new updated treats! Lastly today Sharon gave me a free piece of salt water taffy. She didn't know but I secretly obsessed with salt water taffy definitely one of my favorites. Anyways the free piece was pickle flavor. You might think you don't want it, but again secretly you do. It was a incredibly unusual and unique taste. Maybe I'll buy some soon. Haha thanks again Sharon! You rock! It's always a pleasure!
