Jolly Good Chinese and Thai Food - Calgary

We were hankering for some late night Chinese food, and we're happy to find that Jolly Good was open super late! The shop front is super humble, though that's not a problem with a place that only does take out. The service was quick and friendly; we ordered the dinner for two, which only took 15 minutes to make. The food was still nice and hot by the time we got home. Each item was packed well with cardboard separating each item and plastic bags covering the items that could potentially spill. The items we ordered were wonton soup, chicken fried rice, beef ho fan, and salt and pepper squid. The quantity of each item was massive. Each takeout container was filled to the very top of their containers; in this regard, alone, the value is there. The wonton soup was had a light and tasty broth. The 6 pork wontons were all a decent size with a good taste. This was the dish that my fiance liked the most. The chicken fried rice was a bit of a let down. With tiny pieces of chicken, egg, and a pea every so often scattered in a huge box of rice, there wasn't much taste in this item. The chicken was also a bit on the drier side. We probably liked this dish the least. The ho fan was quite good with big chunks of velveted beef. The noodles weren't brittle, and the dish wasn't too oily. My only gripe about this dish was the size of the chopped onions being much too big. That aside, though, this dish was delicious. The salt and pepper squid surprised us. At a glance, we've never seen salt and pepper squid like this, so we were unsure what to think. After trying it, though, we liked it quite a bit. The batter is crispy without being too hard, the squid had bite without being rubbery, and the taste was flavourful without being overpowered with spice or saltiness. If I could ask for improvements, I'd recommend less batter, but that wasn't a huge issue. We enjoyed this dish equally to the ho fan. While we won't be making this our go to place for Chinese food, the portion sizes and late night hours will probably have us coming back when the moment strikes.

Ridiculous restaurant. We ordered on SkipTheDishes. Put some comments down because of food allergies, called the restaurant immediately after to confirm they were able to make it with the restrictions on mind. The guy on the phone said yes no problem. We waited for an hour for the delivery and they suddenly canceled our order. Called the restaurant and the woman on the phone they canceled cause they couldn’t fulfil the order.

We ordered for pickup and I must say this is the least appetizing place I have had the pleasure of ordering from. We had the dough encrusted squid that was fabulous to look at, and the ginger beef was fascinating. The dumplings were steamed and doughy, this was my fault, I ordered them that way and as awful as they were, probably the highlight of the dinner

Wish I’d read the reviews here before ordering! Ordered thru Uber - received one wrong order and the other combo meal was half hearty at best. Fried rice was definitely not fresh - it was cold and clumpy, the ginger chicken was also seemingly not fresh- it was hard dry and chewy. Wish them well in their business but we’re left disappointed tonight.

2nd time I have tried this place with a few years gap. The shrimp in batter and vegetable spring roll tasted like they were deep fried in month old oil. The rice was the only edible dish from my order. I will never use them again.

Contrary to all the negative reviews I like this place. It’s open late and very close to my house. I like that you can get the ginger squid in the meal for two.

Now I was a little weary of eating here but as another critic pointed out they are the only one open really late. Before ordering I did read quite a few reviews and ordered accordingly, I stayed away from beef. I ordered 4 dishes and here's the breakdown. Seafood Fried rice, lots of seafood and tasted great and was fullest I've ever seen. Curry chicken, a little weak flavour and lots of big pieces of cabbage but still pretty good. BBQ pork with satay noodles, very good except again lots of big pieces of cabbage. Thai hot and sour soup, good with a decent amount of shrimp. Great value here just be careful what you order.

If I could leave a Zero, I would. We ordered on Christmas Eve to accommodate an egg allergy and a gluten intolerance. We recognize and acknowledge the difficulty in accommodating these requests and have had many difficult conversations about these with previous restaurants and thus followed up to ensure accommodation. The order was placed through Skip the Dishes at 7:16. We called the restaurant at 7:17 to confirm receipt and confirm the allergies and anything they could not accommodate. We were assured it was all okay. At 8:24, the order was cancelled through Skip the Dishes. No phone call, no discussion, no accommodation. The answer we got is “they were very busy.” This is absolutely the worst customer service I have ever had and I am also seriously considering cancelling my Skip the Dishes membership. The resolution options are thus far unacceptable.
