Letter to the Editor “ It is tragic to hear of the death of Marilyn Holsten and I can believe her life was a "living hell." Her death is tragic because she was a real fighter and displayed incredible strength as she took on the eviction, and the federal medical marijuana program. MLA Jenny Kwan and I visited Marilyn and tried to get the provincial and federal governments to get better home support for her and approval for medical marijuana. Ironically, we just got a copy of the letter from the federal health minister today, saying she had been approved for the medical marijuana program, in late June. It is a telling story of our health-care system that Marilyn had to contend with so many obstacles when she was so debilitated and just needed security and medical support. This is something that happened in China not in Canada and I don’t think it has any place in BC Canada or any part of Canada for that matter as a commemorative holiday .
Once we allow this to happen it means that we have to have a special day for everyone from every country for any little thing .
History is history we learn from our mistakes and we move on as human beings.
Reminds me of a fourth grader that keeps picking at the scab, let it heal leave it alone .
Oh and by the way did you know that most of the land from Cambie St., east and West 1st all the way up to west 16th was owned mostly by Japanese families Who had their homes and businesses taken away because of World War II? Most of these families ended up being we located in the middle of Alberta in the freezing mountains and were held in prison camps.
So if we’re going to talk about the rape of Nanjing,
then we should also have a special day for the Japanese that were discriminated against as well .
And this happened in Canada not in some other country .
Stop being foolish and stop this ridiculous crusade.
Bring Canada together don’t drive it apart .
