About IKUSA Izakaya & Tokyo Market

The father of two children and husband to my beautiful wife, my passion for food began as a child watching my parents run a successful restaurant. 18 years later, I’ve encountered many mentors; however, my parents remain my number one inspiration.

Even as a child, I realized that good food and great service has the power to make people happy, and that is my vision for ke Charcoal. I want to share my passion and my unique take on Japanese cuisine, and use it to entertain our eclectic group of customers.

For first-timers to ke Charcoal, I recommend our Yakitori special. With the smoke from our charcoal grill and the succulent oils that drip onto the meat, it’ll feel like you’re in the heart of Shinjuku.

Thank you for visiting ke Charcoal, and we hope to see you again.

We had regularly ordered from Ikusa throughout the past year or so and was never disappointed. However, our last visit left us wondering if we had ordered from the same restaurant. The rolls had shrunk a good 25% in size. The deluxe platter that they say serves from 4-5 people didn't even fill 3/4 of the take out container. We were hosting friends and were so embarrassed as there didn't seem to be enough food for everyone. The rolls are smaller than the size of a loonie in diameter, barely enough rice to cover the shrimp tempura. The fried food were good though. Disappointed in the serving sizes of the sushi but the flavour and freshness were good for what was there. As well, the website was flaky and even though we opted for no tip for the take out order, it still charged our card 15% tip.

One of my favourite restaurants in the city! I love Ikusa & all their other sister restaurants! (Ke, Tokyo Street Market, Tokyo Station) They make amazing food at super affordable prices with awesome daily specials! +30% off skewers after 8pm every night! My favourite skewers at the chicken hearts, beef tongue, bacon-wrapped green onions & black tiger shrimp! Can't believe this spicy tuna roll is only $5 too! (Regular price ???!)

We’ve done takeout at their sister Location Ke, and it’s been consistent. First time coming to this location. I was underwhelmed, forgot to take photos of the other rolls and other stone grill items. Got the duck, scallop roll, sashimi, prawn truffle role and the mango roll. The special rolls were very small and overall it was really expensive for what we received.

Good food with reasonable price. Ramen is okay but not the best as the texture is too soft. Raw oysters are very fresh and the best value.

Fantastic place to have a nice sushi dinner with friends. The Fukucho Yuzu lemon Sake with the PEI and West coast oysters was out of this world combination. Our waiter recommended the Japanese oysters next time we're in. Can't wait to go back! The sashimi, toro, salmon, and mackerel is damn good. Can't get any fresher than this. The rolls are as good as what they offer at Kinjo. Knowing that this is part of the Kinjo family of restaurants, the quality is excellent! Service is excellent! ...,and the art work! .. Love it!

Love this Japanese restaurant! Authentic Japanese food that is really tasty and super delicious! Everyone is very friendly and dining here is a nice experience. When ordering, the server is not intimidating and don’t rush you to make up your mind right away? There is also a ready to go meals that you can grab if time to dine doesn’t permit your busy day.

Totally lucked out finding this place! Great vibe, service and amazing food! Their truffle prawn roll and creamy scallop roll was some of the best sushi I've ever had (including ones I've had in Japan)! The truffle combination was so unique and so flavorful and the scallop was super fresh with big chunks of sweet scallop on top. Highly recommend! All other items we had were tasty too (Pork Belly Yakitori)!

What a place! Dining room design is very trendy yet has that authentic Japanese vibe, at least to my eyes! There’s a lot of unique design features in the interior design of the place. Long tables seats six-eight, so very good place to eat with family or friends. The food even taste better! Not only do they look great but taste great too! We ordered some Ramens and rolls and skewers to name a few and all were a treat to our taste buds. Service is top-notch too, with friendy servers that lets you know what’s available. A very satisfying first dining experience that makes us want to come back to try the other items from the menu. We came to dine in at around 9:30 PM so parking on the street was not a problem, but I imagine it would be in the daytime. Still, highly recommended!
