Huron Motor Lodge

4/5 based on 8 reviews

Welcome to HURON MOTOR LODGE on beautiful MANITOULIN ISLAND, the largest fresh water island in the world, located right across from the Chi-Cheemaun ferry. We are a family owned business which has been in operation since 1932.

We have 21 rooms to choose from, some are suites, and some are chalets and of course regular motel rooms with either a king, a queen or two queen beds. We have a large well maintained pool for any of our guests who may like to relax and soak up the sun. To quench your thirst or have a light snack we offer a coffee shop.

We are a seasonal business and open the first Friday in May and close the Sunday after the Canadian Thanksgiving.

Very cute little place and so close to what's going on in Southbay Mouth! Pool was clean and well kept! Beds could be more comfortable though! Not a lot of sound proofing between units either! All in all I would say again!

Had an issue with our Ferry booking ended up being stranded until the 8:15 pm ferry the next day. Spoke to the inn keeper at this Motel told them of our predicament. Their idea of helping us out was to charge us for an extra night because we stayed one night and then our Ferry didn’t depart until 8:15 PM so for the extra six hours we had to pay a full night stay at a daily rate of $172 a night so basically we checked in at 5:30 PM and checked out at 6:30 PM the next night and we paid $350 the pool …. The water in the lake was warmer also there is a little restaurant there in town that’s open until 8 PM took us over an hour to get our order which consisted of two burgers and fries and a French onion soup one of our group got food poisoning from the French onion soup not impressed At all with this motel they could’ve helped us out a little better been a little more understanding someone at the ferry messed up our booking otherwise we would’ve been on the 3:30 PM ferry and wouldn’t of needed the motel room. I must say extremely cheap owners no Wi-Fi no Internet couldn’t even buy a cheap container of coffee for their guests Also I am handicapped and I wouldn’t sit in that bathtub I would rather bathed in the lake it was disgusting

Astronomically nice staff! Room is Very clean! Not the newest most updated rooms and I like that part. It's classic! it's gives you that home feeling. Nice microwave, mini fridge and tv. There is wifi. And very close to the water. Quiet. Nice pool. No AC but with the nice breeze coming from the water you don't need it at all. I have zero complaints. I definitely recommend.

It was very clean, service was great even if a bit pricy but considering the proximity of the Ferry it was expected. It can not be booked if you are not calling between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM because everything closes and you can't get food or any drinks outside those hours and even if they have a fridge, microwave and TV in the room, I would recommend a coffee machine to be added to the room with a few bags of ground coffee etc.. or maybe some distributing machines outside

Very clean rooms and cottages. Cottages are small but good size for couple nights stay. Very quiet. Not much other options in the area, so price was reasonable. Couple places to eat within a few meters walk. Rooms smelt like Grammas house, no offense to Gramma. Right across the street from the ferry. Nice souvenir shop in the main office. Would stay here again

We used the Huron Motor Lodge yet again for our biking group, getting exactly what we expected - a clean room and friendly service. This was group number one for this year and we'll be back in two weeks with the second group, fully expecting the same. I have to chuckle when I read the reviews - I don't expect a downtown hotel when I'm on Manitoulin Island. I don't care about the bathroom being dated / the colour of the sink.

Only stayed because there wasn't anything else available on the island. Didn't have high expectations going in, and they didn't even meet those. Immediately after getting in, the room smelled awful, very musty. Pulled off the blankets and 2 earwigs ran out. Found 2 more in the morning on the other bed. When I went to tell the manager (?) on checkout, she didn't care whatsoever. Voiced no concern, and just brushed us aside, asking for our money. Walls are paper thin, rooms are pretty ugly, cleanliness is a 5/10, the list goes on. We've paid way less for way better/cleaner rooms. Avoid if you can. Also, not even free coffee?? Cheap, money grabbers. Edit, response to owner. Yes, positive it was there, 100%. I did voice my concerns to the woman at the desk and she brushed them aside, not caring.

Stayed here while waiting for the ChiCheemaun the next day. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. Pool was FREEZING. Bathroom was VERY dated, and the windows were all single pane cottage style, so they kept the wind out, but did nothing to reduce the noise. Anytime anyone moved in any of the other rooms it sounded like we were inside a bass drum. You need to know that EVERYTHING in town closes at 7PM. If you want dinner, drinks, snacks, whatever, get it before 7. After that they roll up the sidewalks. Honestly for $172/night, I expected more. It's best feature is the proximity to the ferry dock. The island itself is unbelievably beautiful.
