Hummingbird Pub & Family Restaurant

Was there for work so no beer or pool unfortunately! But had the Galiano burger and fries to go and it hit the spot. Much needed for a 17 hour work day with travel time. Thank you

Cozy neighbourhood pub and one of the few places to grab a bite and a beer on Galiano. Friendly service and a charming interior! Basic pub grub, but still some decent options if you are vegetarian or vegan.

Was hoping for a bit more I guess. I was happy to find Fat Tug on tap so that was very welcome! The fish and chips were awfully expensive for a pretty small portion of not so fresh tasting fish. I'll come back next time I'm on the island bit I think I'll aim to eat elsewhere and stick to the beers here.

Debbie took care of us on our short trip to Galiano. The hummingbird was our favourite part of the trip with excellent service, drinks and food. Debbie accommodated us during a power outage and helped us with everything she could offer. Please give them all your business. We love Debbie.

This is our favourite place to go out for a family meal on the island. Our server, Ruby, took so good care of us. She patiently answered all of my mother in law's questions about the menu and she saved the day when you were out of veggie burgers by suggesting I get a bun with the falafel... it was delicious! There was another family in there at the same time and they were having a blast! Need to get a new ball for the foosball game!

On the surface, The Hummingbird is a local Galiano "gem" with a certain rustic charm to it. Unfortunately, this was some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Admittedly, we came in as a group of 14, which is a bit chaotic to begin with, but the restaurant was empty at the time (it was 4pm), and were scrambling for options after an early airbnb check-out and a late ferry on a rainy Sunday. The staff was visibly annoyed with our arrival, and scolded us for not calling in advance. We were told there was a mandatory 18% gratuity, but that 20% was expected for a group this large. One staff member, who was part of the conversation, avoided eye contact all together. They begrudgingly sat us at a large table 15 minutes later. Once seated, the server put on a fake, friendly smile, and the service was ok for the most part. One of my friends asked if the veggie burger could be made vegan, and the server responded by saying that the veggie burger wasn't vegan because, "it had gluten in it." I was given my burger without ketchup, so I asked the server to bring some to the table. She then asked the entire group of us if, "anyone needed anything else, so that she wouldn't have to go back and forth," in an extremely irritated tone. We didn't feel especially targeted though, because we actually overheard another table complain about the shockingly unfriendly service as well. The food itself was mediocre at best, and fairly expensive. The cheeseburger I ordered was over-cooked and lacking flavour, while the salmon wrap barely had any salmon in it. We were pretty put-off by the whole experience. Don't bother with this restaurant if you're looking for a welcoming staff and good meal.

Fantastic little patio. Went to the hummingbird bar for dinner. Great ambiance with the island greenery. Our Fish and chips and burger with yam fries was good. Service was great and was quick. Prices were very reasonable considering your on an island with very limited resources. You can walk to the pub directly from the ferry terminal via Sturdies Bay trail from trail follows the road it's about a 3k trail walk.

What to say? Well, I'm not super thrilled with this place. We gave it two chances (there aren't a lot of choices of restaurants on Galiano Island) and both times the food wasn't that great, I'd have honestly preferred fast food. I would have left a better review except for the fact that my take out bill has a $1.00 irroneous "take out charge" on it, which is just the Hummingbird being greedy. Based on some other reviews and my experience today I can understand why the business is for sale.
