I disagree with Jaydee. I went in to see a Psychologist at Homewood to deal with life problems. I have been to many different Psychologist and found them to be a waste of time/money. But I can tell you Jen is very good and I would highly recommend her.

Useless Psychologists when it comes to finding any meaningful mental health advice or understanding. Basically a bunch of self-entitled, college graduates who spent a few years reading books on psychology, but can't even relate to any of the life lessons that they preach.. You basically sit there in a chair and get judged for making "excuses", while they hand you a bunch of true or false questions that can be found online, using a simple google search. I mean the Homewood Health psychological approach to diagnosing and finding long lasting solutions for mental health issues is really quite simple - Basically you just need realize that everyone has the same problems; you need to stop making excuses; you need to try harder; you need to get 8 hours of rest each night; plenty of exercise and eat healthy = Mind Blown!!! Save yourself the trip and just use google or ask a colleague to find the answers you're looking for.

I’ve accessed this as an EAP service via virtual with s counsellor in Edmonton. I adore my counsellor and am not looking forward to my sessions being done. I have had great support with this particular business.

Better than nothing. Employer provided (paid) "free" service but not as good as promoted. Be prepared for tepid to cold and impersonal processing of calls and appointments. You don't get help during your initial call. You tell them your concerns/problem and they let you know when an appt with a counselor is available. Getting immediate help is a misconception repeatedly shared by our office managers. Booking the next appointment seemed to be the only priority. For me having an stranger objectively take notes and question me on my thoughts was better than not talking to anyone at all. I tried in-person and over the phone sessions. I eventually booked biweekly in-person appts one at a time for 6 months at the last appt I was told I couldn't book the next one because I max'ed out on what was allowed per case. I couldn't see her anymore unless I paid or I called the EFAP line to start a new case. She hadn't helped me solve anything but her office was a place I'd go to cry. I didn't want to be re-assessed & have to repeat my whole story again to another person just to perpetuate these appts so I decided I should figure it out on my own. The appointments had helped me get thru daily life but they never helped me get healthier. Dropping appts might not be advisible for others, nor myself in a different more extreme situation but, in my case, Homewood was not providing me with the help I needed. She didn't seem to have an opinion either way. Just left it up to me. I decided I had to look else where. It took me 2.5 yrs later but I self-helped my way to finally leaving my ex, and taking my 2 young toddlers with me. I was in a financially draining, manipulative, emotionally & mentally abusive relationship for 14 yrs. I'm still struggling with my mental health from time to time but I'm much better than before. Sadly, when I think about getting help, I don't think Homewood as a top choice.

I had a session over the phone today. It didn't seem like the counselor had a lot of experience. Not smoothly guided. My dog barked and she asked me if I wanted to leave the phone call. .... uhh no? And then after that, asked me a few more times if I wanted to end the call? ... I came here for help and to begin an ongoing counseling routine. Why would I want to get off the phone? I made no implication to it. It was weird. She didn't seem invested or like she had any experience. We had touched on a few very deep things. Asking someone if they want to leave is so unprofessional and shuts people down. Horribly guided. Might be good for someone who's never been to counseling. It felt so scripted.
