Heddle Shipyards operates the largest number of shipyards and dry docks in Canada. We have been in continuous operation since 1987 and we are expanding.

About Heddle Shipyards

In 2018, Heddle Shipyards implemented the first phase of a long-term succession plan to ensure the continued success and growth of the company.  Since 2018, Heddle Shipyards has rapidly increased its market share of the commercial RMO sector, Canadian Coast Guard maintenance programs, and its support of new-build activities under the National Shipbuilding Strategy.

The purchase of Algoma Ship Repair in 2020 added significant equipment and resources to the Port Weller Dry Docks, and the acquisition of Fabmar metals in 2021 drastically increased Heddle’s capacity in Thunder Bay to execute complex projects.

2020 also saw the official entrance of Heddle Shipyards into the new build sector of the National Shipbuilding Strategy with the signing of a teaming agreement to bid the Canadian Coast Guard’s Polar icebreaker with Seaspan Shipyards.

I worked at Port Arthur shipyards (pascol engineering, Lakehead marine industrial) from the 90s untill it went into recievership and closed its doors in 2016. None of these pictures are of the shipyard at 401 shipyard drive, Thunder Bay ON Canada. Provided I have never worked at Fabmar shipyard in TBay. But as far as I can see none of these pictures are of that site either. Fabmar as I understand is above water repairs as LMI has a drydock, docking, pumphouse, manufacturing shop, machine shop, engine shop, and marine shop, along with electrician, machinist, millwrongs and carpenters shops...and amongst these shops was redseal welders, UA 628. Boilermakers128, ironworker759, operating engineers793. Bashers 379. Carpenter1669, LIUNA607. U get the idea. I belonged to the steelworkers5055(shipyard union). Boilermaker128, sheet metal workers379, and carpenters1669. Not simultaneously. Sequentially. Apprenticed for each trade blah blah blah. I love and am proud of the shipbuilding we did at 401 Shipyard drive. Thunder Bay, ON. Canada. And appearing a tad misleading by the pictures. But the old yard must never be underestimated as to the capability and quality not to mention size and scope of work this facility when manned appropriately can produce. It is mostly upgraded to near the highest level Marsec (sp) in order to secure government and military manufacturing/ maintenance contracts. Thanks to an ambitious local boilermaker who undertook a leadership position due to his senior retiring. Tidbit O history . So are u hiring Dale? Lol
