This studio is great! My friend and I decided to take a beginner wheel throwing class and we both really enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere is positive and supportive, people are so friendly, and Paige & Luna are awesome, patient and encouraging teachers that help you learn from your mistakes with so much optimism and tact. It also felt very safe in times of COVID-19 with small group classes, taking all the right health and safety precautions, including the use of masks. Signing up is easy and James is friendly and so quick to reply. I look forward to continue learning with them. ?

I'm on my second six week wheel class and definitely going to do a third. Everyone at this studio is super friendly. They also have open studio times if you want to work outside of class times. Would 100% recommend.

Recently completed a beginners hand building class. We had Riley as our instructor. Quite unimpressed with him as a teacher. The entire 6 weeks he was super passive and just seemed like he didn’t want to be there at all. We had James as our sub for one class and it was far better. We actually LEARNT something new instead of just watching a quick demo and then being sent on our way. Pick up process was kind of irritating too. Waited a long time for someone to just answer the door bell. When I went inside to find my stuff everything was all over the place. I spent over 20min just digging around finding everything.

We had such an incredible experience in the beginners class with Rylie and Luna. They're awesome teachers and we got to make some nice bowls and cups. Was a super fun and new thing. Highly recommended!

A lovely studio in Chinatown. I've been looking for a studio that does hand building classes for awhile and decided to message Hand Eye to see if they offered something that wasn't on the website and they sure did! My partner and I enjoyed a very thorough and fun private hand building class with Rylie where we made mugs that I will later glaze. Studio was easy to find, they follow all COVID protocols and their space is spacious and full of sunshine(yes we got super lucky and it was super sunny in December!). Rylie was a well of knowledge and taught us many interesting techniques I've never seen before. He made sure to answer all of our questions and was just very fun to be around. We felt like we gained a friend after this workshop! Overall I can not wait to come back and make more pottery.

I recently completed the beginner's 6 week Wheel Throwing course and absolutely loved it. My instructors were Tammi and Georgia and they made the class very comfortable and enjoyable. It was a great balance of instruction and time to play and explore. I'm already excited to do another course at Hand Eye and continue learning. If you're doing a course, I definitely recommend using the drop-in hours out side of class time, so you can really maximize the course time and make more things!

Riley is a great instructor! I had them teach me, along with Luna, and they both did a great job at helping me learn from my mistakes and build up my techniques, based off what I already knew. I learned about setting intention with my pieces, understanding the chemistry and physics behind working with clay, and enjoyed spending time with Riley and Luna, as they were both very eager to support me and were easy to get along with. I hope to take Riley’s glaze chemistry class in the future!

Since doing a very basic ceramics class in college, I've been thinking about getting my hands messy again. I found this studio out of the blue and was able to speak with James over the phone to schedule a studio tour. I usually have a busy work schedule so I appreciated him being flexible with his time to meet with me. He recommended the Hand Building class as a good place to start for a beginner. Since I got a great vibe from him and the studio space, I decided to just go for it and sign up for Wheel Throwing too. I eventually signed up for Glaze Chemistry also, since I've always wanted to get a better understanding of how glazes worked and going about mixing and exploring my mine recipes. I feel lucky that I was able to learn from Rylie, who was my instructor for all three of my classes. They are super knowledgeable and generously shares so many excellent tips and advice. I've learn an enormous amount from them in such a short time, and I've gain a very solid fundamental skillset that I'm very excited to continue exploring and expanding upon. You rock, Rylie! Thank you! The studio offers wheel rental and sells various types of clay, so I've set up a little workspace at home to continue my practice. You can also inquire about studio space. You can see from the images where I've gotten in a couple of months, not including the things I recently did in my glaze class. You certainly don't need to take a class to glaze, but I personally wanted a better understanding before getting into it. I still need a lot more practice, but I feel happy with my progress. It has also been great to be introduced to the community here. Oh, and there is also a small library with some very informative and helpful books, some of which are actually out of print and a bit hard to find. Lastly, here are a couple of things others might be wondering too. In terms of Covid safety, I never felt uncomfortable. It seems like they've taken all the precautions to keep the studio safe and the space is large enough to spread out and be comfortable in. And, though the studio does not offer parking, there is free all day parking just a couple of blocks away. I think I've taken a bit more of a serious approach to this, but there is no pressure and you can approach it however you'd like. You can be very casually about it and just have a great time getting your hands messy and just make some cool things. I've had a wonderful experience, the people here are great, and I'd highly recommend it! :)
