We had a pretty good stay at Kicking Horse. Things were compromised due to Covid, which can't be blamed on the resort. My only suggestion would be communicate these out to incoming guests. Our main issue was the lack of food options on the hill. There was only one restaurant open, but it had very limited hours. One night they closed at 5. I want to be clear, Covid sucks and it's not the resort's fault. But giving a heads up would allow guests to do a full grocery run in town before heading up the hill. Alternatively, Covid meant we had to book hot tub sessions and this was great! We'll probably never have a hot tub to ourselves again!

My son and I stayed at the Glacier Mountaineer Lodge in Feb 2022. The room was clean and in great condition. We didn't get a room with a kitchenette but our room did have a sink, cutlery, coffee maker, microwave and a mini-fridge. It was nice to be right on the hill, steps away from the lifts and restaurants.

The ski in, ski out location cannot be beat. Direct access to everthing you need on the hill, from lifts to liquor store, ski locker, cafe, bar, hot tub, grocery store, indoor or outdoor parking and more. The front desk staff were all amazing. Due to Covid-19 there was no cleaning but the unit had its own washer/dryer and the cleaning staff doing checkout cleaning were very helpful providing odds and ends if you needed something. Hassle free month was very relaxing. Any unit quirks were fixed in a timely manner by maintenance staff. Expecting to return next year.

Lodge is a fantastic location! Staff is wonderful. Amenities were good. The unit we stayed in could use some updated kitchen equipment and bedding. Pots and pans are old/broken, only a few plates and silverware settings, no fitted sheets so when you move at night the sheet comes off, comforter was ripped, pull out couch has only thin/old blankets.

The accommodations and the location of the lodging is incredible. The one hot tub per building and booking time slots is completely unacceptable for such an incredible facility. Glacier Lodge Hot tub is way too small. Very poor planning. After a day of skiing the hot tub is a must. Also there were inconsistencies between the two buildings. Boot driers not available in Glacier Lodge because of Covid however the boot driers worked in the Mountaineer Building. Balcony was filthy. We had to clean the railings.

Mountaineer lodge is fine, but the most remarkable thing about it is how underwhelming the service and quality is. I'll start with the good things - the location can't be beat, the boot/ski room an an excellent amenity, the shared outdoor hot tub is decent. That said, there are so many things that were just not great and there is no attention to detail. There was a broken window (not the glass, but the window was like pulled out of the frame by about an inch, so it had a permanent leak but didn't open/close) - resolved with a discount. There was a lamp held together by three different kinds of tape - resolved by removing the lamp. I had low expectations for the quality of sleep on the sofa bed - and that was met. But the sofa-bed itself needed some maintenance because it was very difficult to close. I had to get maintenance to do it to ensure I wasn't going to break it with too much force. The dusting in the rooms was haphazard - like the blinds seemed like they hadn't been dusted in a couple months. There were dishes in the dishwasher when we got there. The heat is hard to control - there's a thermostat for the fireplace, but otherwise can't turn the temperature. We had to have the balcony door open to keep the temperature reasonable, even at 10 PM in Late March/early April. The vending machine had a thick layer of dust. A lot of the electrical outlet covers are cracked/broken. The whole building looks tired and in need of a good bit of TLC. Finally, the services on the hill are a bit lacklustre. Its a bit hard to find breakfast (croissants and coffee not available in the general store until 9:30, no breakfast available at the main lodge, - the coffee shop ,double black, had bagels and muffins to order starting at 9:00). The check-in process was not all that welcoming. It would have been nice to get a bit of an orientation of services available on the resort, in the building, etc - but you're kind of left on your own. My overall impression is that this felt like a not-well-run airbnb - not a hotel. I would stay here again if it was the cheapest option in golden - but likely next time going to stay in a hotel in town and drive up to ski.

The good news is that the bathroom/shower and bed were good. However, this room had a kitchenette with faulty faucets (they turned both ways on and off), inadequate counter space and 2 settings of cutlery. The microwave took up most of the counter space which had to be moved to the bathroom. The closet space was adequate but there were only 2 hangers. There were no chairs let alone a couch to sit on to have a coffee or to watch TV. The balcony did have a good view of the valley which was nice. The lighting in the room was terrible. I booked this in October 2021 for a March 2022 stay so I would think I would have had first pick of rooms. The ski locker room was good and provided excellent access to the lifts. The parking garage was good and provided good access to the elevators. The hallways were dark and looked well used and tired. The only real highlight of the stay was the skiing at Kicking Horse which was excellent and would make me want to return for another visit, but not in the room that we had (201B). If I had know this prior to arrival the red flags would have gone off.
