About Galt Museum & Archives

“This new temporary exhibition highlights changes in services over the years as well as the peppy personalities who make transit run on an everyday basis,” says Tyler Stewart, Curator at the Galt Museum & Archives. “It’s a great project to highlight the importance of this vital public service that often gets taken for granted.”

Items from the personal family collection of Lethbridge’s first female bus driver, Mariette Moroz, are some of the unique items on display in this exhibition, which recognizes her special accomplishments.

“For her it was never about ‘women’s lib,’ but about equal treatment for everyone no matter your gender, race or beliefs,” explains her son Jeff Moroz, who generously loaned items for display from his mother’s lengthy career. “She was always focused on serving the customer and going that extra mile to be a kind person.”

Really interesting museum from the creation of Lethbridge bypassing the WW2 or the Black Foot, I learned a lot. It was interactive and it' perfectly located. Close to the coulees and the High bridge, what a spot! Thanks also to the personal!

The exhibit they had on was about the automobile industry and how lethbridge grew and evolved along side it was absolutely amazing. The Galt is always a relaxing time and i would recommend it to anyone and everyone if they are interested in museums and want to know a bit more about Lethbridge heritage.

Galt Museum & Archives is the primary museum in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and is the largest museum in the province south of Calgary. In 2006, the museum cared for a growing collection of over 20,000 artifacts and 300,000 archival documents and photographs record the history of Lethbridge and southern Alberta. It attracts over 50,000 visitors every year. A Scientific and Historical Society was formed in Lethbridge in October 1888. Little was done for record archives, and emphasis for the society laid with the presentation of papers at bi-weekly meetings. In 2003, the museum was awarded the Museums Alberta Award of Excellence for Exhibitions for its "Ancestors" exhibit. The exhibit was a result of a partnership with the Royal Ontario Museum and the British Museum in London, England. The Galt has since been awarded with recognitions for excellence in programming, curation, marketing and tourism initiatives, horticulture and archival and collections management, including the following: Award for Excellence in Museums Finalist, Governor General's History Awards, 2016; Leadership Award for Engagement, Alberta Museums Association, 2013; 5 Blooms for the Native Prairie Plants Garden at Galt Museum, Communities in Bloom, 2012; Community Organization Award, The Aboriginal Council of Lethbridge and the Lethbridge Aboriginal Awareness Week Planning Committee, 2011...

It's a pretty cool Museum and has some interactive exhibits. The two kids that we went with between the ages of 6 and 9 seem to have a good time as well. They also have some fun activities for kids over the weekend you need to check their website to see before you go.

We had an afternoon visit here. We visited here after going to Fort Whoopup where we received a 50% off our admission to the Galt. The discount really makes the visit worthwhile. Rob was manning the kiosk and it was a most friendly and professional experience. If you only do the gallery, then it will take about an hour to read all the placards and take pictures. You get greeted by a mounted bison upon entering with a most interesting diaroma of southern Alberta. It was interesting finding out about the purple plane and Uncle Ben's Sick Brewery. Lastly, the gift shop was one of the better that we've visited in the Lethbridge area. Thanks again Rob for your assistance.
