It's sad to hear Peppermint’s experience working at Renaissance, as I also work there and my reality is completely different. I’ve always felt like my concerns matter and are respected. When a challenging situation happens, like an over abundance of donations causing the work load to increase, everyone including management works as a team to find the necessary solutions. Exceptions aside, bins weigh roughly 15kg and the procedure is to never carry them manually but to use the tools provided, like using the palettes or jiggers that are available. It’s a great team taking on challenges to improve our environmental footprint and succeed in our mission.

Gigantic place with 4 floors! Didn’t find much stuff of interest though (records, cds, games, etc). Was going to give 2 stars, but added 1 star because of how big this place is, and another star because at least I found one record that I wanted.

Why not reduce, reuse, and recycle? Stuff is too expensive and has too large a carbon footprint. I shop here and always have a quiet hour browsing books, clothing, and household goods.

Just wanted to share with you my experience as a Worker for Renaissance. I did work at their Distribution center near Decarie. When you shop at this company, you may want to know that many of their workers are worked almost like slaves. I'm talking physically we were forced to work with heavy and very heavy loads at very high pace for many hours. The same happens at their various donation centers where workers handle many heavy bins through the day. You may think I may be exaggerating or perhaps that this is normal, 'someone has to do the hard work'. All I want to say is that this is close to exploitation. Lifting off the floor hundreds of times a day large 10-20kg bins and having to push at fast pace big carts weighting well over 100 kg - sometimes over 200 kg because we have a balance where we can weight them, many of which had faulty wheels because these would deform under the weight. We had to discharge big trucks full with these bins and carts very fast because the trucks would arrive several at same time and we were only a handful of workers. Not to mention being bullied by the supervisors which is quite common in Montreal. While there, this is a supposedly 'non profit' organization but it has many high rank managers who make a hefty salary and do nothing the whole day. Our warehouse had a floor full with large holes not too deep but with the concrete crumbled for years, we had to slalom between these while pushing heavy carts. All this to say, it's up to your conscience, you decide what to do with this information. I'm not saying not to buy there, but perhaps I'm saying not to exaggerate and to always keep in mind when you got your little treasure that there is someone behind it who is suffering.

I love coming to this thrift store. Just came back from it today where I found a small bed for my cat but left it behind. I called in just to ask if it was still available the person on the phone was terribly rude and said we don’t offer this service of holding things. I understand they don’t hold anything which is fine but simply seeing if it’s there is that too much to ask for? Anyways, this is not my point. I feel as though we as a community don’t share values of respect. This person over the phone was about to hang up on me a few times and got really upset but why? I mean that’s just spent energy. Anyways, whomever answered the phone today. I hope you fill yourself with love because the way you offer help / non help is horrible. It’s easy to be a nice person who is understanding and not yell and get angry. A simple, sorry I can’t do that would have been just fine. I hope you really find peace. 2 star is because I love this place & the rest missing is for that awful person who just answered me. K bye. Xoxo Called at 2:00pm Tuesday, January 24 , 2022.

One of my go-to spots whenever I'm on St-hubert. Super close to the metro, very easy to access :) The selection here is actually pretty good! 3 stories high, so a lot of good separation of categories, no need to shuffle through clothing alleys to get to the electronics. Not to mention that there aren't any taxes, which is the icing on the cheap price cake!! You go there, you find something for sure!
