About Friends of madge lake
During the summer of 2017, a non-profit group was organized to work cooperatively with Duck Mountain Provincial Park management and staff to enhance the park's recreational, educational, environmental and interpretive programs.
The Friends are people from across Canada. Madge Lake is a year-round destination that attracts campers, day users, cottage owners, and school groups as well as people from the surrounding communities and First Nations.
The park is open to the general public and on average receives 240,000 visitors per year, 60% from Saskatchewan, 30% from Manitoba and 10% from elsewhere.
The organization is governed by a Board of Directors. At its Annual General Meeting, open to all interested persons, the board shares information about its activities and achievements.
Friends of Madge Lake promotes the preservation of the natural environment and special natural features of Madge Lake for their intrinsic value and for the inspiration and enjoyment of present and future generations as a public trust.
The organization identifies and supports projects that benefit the health and well-being of park visitors, that preserve and protect the ecosystem of the park, and that increase public understanding and knowledge of the park's flora and fauna.
It then commits to raise the funds and mobilize the human resources needed to achieve its goals.
