Fresh Option Organic Delivery

Fresh Option Organic Delivery is a Winnipeg-based business, founded and managed by mom and former chef, Marnie Feeleus in early 2003. F.O.O.D. is a small team of dedicated co-workers, who rock the fresh box each and every week. Magnificent fresh fruits and vegetables are our biggest delight and serious undertaking. We gather fresh produce from local farms, as well as importing from certified organic ones for items that can’t be grown here in Manitoba, or for when they’re out of season here.

Our customers are home cooks in Winnipeg, as well as commercial clients including chefs, bakeries, schools and child care centres, organic and natural food retailers, caterers, hospices, workplace snackers, and co-operative buying clubs.

The local producers we work are mainly small-scale and family-run. They have a vested interest in growing with environmental sustainability as a priority, and with the demands of the Fresh Option clients at the forefront. Managing a local supply chain enables us to make available the widest selection and longest availability window, By creating a localized sustainable food system where all players can prosper, we help keep dollars circulating in our community.

Receiving produce from local farms

We reduce, reuse, recycle, and compost all of our organic waste (even the unbleached paper towels). We believe that all businesses should be responsible for implementing policies that reduce their environmental impact so we put our money where our values are to do just that. Our system minimizes packaging as well as reducing fuel consumption. We support food security initiatives and donate surplus food (healthy and organic of course) to food banks and other food security projects in the area. When possible, we source and use goods and services from other green-minded and socially-conscious businesses in our community

Increased demand for the local producers we buy from creates jobs and stimulates rural economy. In many ways the Fresh Option system is a grassroots and loosely organized local fair trade movement. In every action we are guided by a respect for all living things and with consideration of future generations.

Fresh Option’s primary mission is to provide eaters in Winnipeg with a new alternative for accessing food and to thus strengthen Manitoba’s organic market through cooperation with local producers. We are driven by a philosophy of sustainable environmental practices, community stewardship and socially conscious action. We value our own livelihoods and those of others, as important foundations for balanced lives and communities, and strive to create a workplace that will contribute to the happiness, success and health of our customers, employees, suppliers and our family. Our vision has always been to forge a new link in the food chain and reduce the need to import organic food to Manitoba while increasing the total organic market size. We envision and actively work towards a thriving network of organic consumers who are proud to support their neighbours, small farm economy and holistic business practices. As the leader in this area of distribution we hope to establish a long-lasting and stable venture . It is important to us that our actions teach and involve community members of all ages in gaining understanding of where food comes from and how consumer choices affect global wellness.
