A	Allison Fraser on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An OK store which we frequent only because it's close. The cashiers, particularly the one who also has to take care of special services, are way too busy. There are never (really, not once) carts by the door. You must get them from the parking lot. And you must have a quarter if you want a cart (you get it back when you return the cart). I usually forget and end up with a too-heavy hand cart so I shop fewer items.
D	Dan on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was my first shopping trip to this location. The store is located centrally in Ajax. And easily accessible with more than ample parking. The store itself was undergoing renovations but they still presented a clean and functional environment for shopping. I found the selection to be vast and I had choices that I had not seen at other stores. The staff was very helpful and they opened another cashier when the lineup started to grow. You don't see that very often these days. Great store. Great location.

The staff doesnt seem to care about customers, the cashiers are often cranky, and there are always line ups at the cash. I would rate lower except sometimes they have good flyers. In the past month I have left the store 3 times without what I wanted because they were out of stock. Two times it was half and half cream, and the last time was 1% milk. A grocery store should not ever be out of a staple like milk. I used to shop here a lot, but lately not so much, because of the disappointments. "Ric's No Frills", that is also close by on Westney, has become a hands down better store since new management has taken over. Better flyers and always lots of stock. I would suggest checking them out instead of this Food Basics.

s	sadya ahmade on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rude employee who was at the cashier (Karen) was giving us so much attitude and was so disrespectful. we asked for items to be taken off and she kept throwing stuff into the cart and rolled her eyes. when we asked for bags she took some from the floor and when we asked for new bags she said “ what’s the difference between these and the new bags “. which then i guess some of her regulars laughed. They also don’t clean the belts at all which is a concern because of times likes these. never coming here again!!

Now that everything is opening up, food basics has decided to remove the hand baskets that everyone can use. Citing covid. What a first. We had them during the covid outbreak when we didn't know it was happening and now it's pretty much over and you get rid of the hand baskets. Come on people at food basics, use your brain

The staff is knowledgeable but also unhappy or frustrated when I tried to ask questions about a certain product location. I hope they get some additional payment for dealing with people less patient than me...I've been there and I see why their behavior is completely human.
