I have had the pleasure of working with Flexstone Coatings for the last 5 years. Ken and his staff are excellent to deal with, very professional, and extremely responsive. The Flexsone product line has become a central part of our business and the support we have received from Ken, Ryan, and Demi has been critical to our growth. I really can't say enough about this company. They provide excellent product quality, qualified referrals to dealers and effective marketing support. Working with Flexstone is one of the best decisions we have made for our business development. I can't thank them enough for all the encouragement and support. I like to think of myself as a "Do It Yourself" kind of guy, so when It came to waterproofing my new deck I searched around for options. A lot of my neighbours have problems with their decks leaking due to their roll on vinyl decking's seams separating. Their decks also stain easily, and the patterns of the vinyl never match up around all the seams etc. Originally. I thought that roll-on vinyl was really my only choice and then I spoke to a friend in Calgary who told me to check out Flexstone Coatings. They have an amazing product that gets trowelled on like any kind of viscous flooring covering. It's a urethane based product that mixes with water to start the chemical process. Pour it on, spread it out and it self-levels itself while it sets. It bonds directly to the substrate and is 100% waterproof. The finishing consists of a roll-on top coat, and then the texture which you honestly just toss on like you'd distribute grass seed. I called the Flexstone team to see what kind of challenges I might have doing this myself as I was quite concerned that it would be as challenging as doing roll-on vinyl myself. I was lucky enough to talk directly with the President who talked to me about the process, he directed me to multiple videos they have showing the preparation and install process, and also to some CCMC Test Results showing how bullet proof this waterproof membrane is for cold wet climates like Vancouver. I was sold, they put me in touch with their Operations Manager who answered a few more questions I had and I placed the order. I was rushed for time last Fall so I only got the initial waterproof base-coat put down but its the "meat and potatoes" of the job. 4 Months of solid rain this year, while cooped up with COVID and the deck hasn't let a drop of moisture through. I'm looking forward to Spring as I have another 1,500 Sq/ft deck to waterproof. I can't recommend this product enough for the DIY guys. Also, if you are a deck installer, or other kind of blue-collar worker dealing with decks, garage floors, cracked sidewalks, flat roofs etc. they have solutions for those kinds of things as well, and the product is painless to use and fast to apply. 100% satisfied with Flexstone. Toss that vinyl and get your deck waterproofed the right way!

Summary: Terrible experience with this company. They threatened us with legal threats, and they put a lien on our property. They lost the case months later and we got refunded everything. Here are the details. We hired this company with high hopes to coat our leaky decks with their product. They checked out our decks and claimed they could do the job. Unfortunately they did not go over our gutter which had clear holes where water would penetrate the suite below. The following night it rained heavily and flooded the down stairs suite. As a result we did not pay them the remaining balance we owed as the job was incomplete. They did initially come (attempt to) fix the job by going over the gutter, but still there were issues as a result. These issues included were; continued leaks penetrating the suits below, water got underneath their coating which was creating little visible bubbles, and water damage in the suites below that resulted in their initial attempt to apply their product. They demanded we must pay the remaining balance, otherwise they will not help us any further. Why would we pay the full amount when the problems are still on going? Thats why we hired them to fix these issues. They proceeded to put a lien on our property and threatened my father (during Christmas time) who was in the hospital with severe health conditions with legal fees. They claimed that we were lying about water damage and until we payed the remaining balance they would offer no help and would have to pay β€œnasty legal fees”. Losing our trust completely we were not going to be intimidated and we decided to not pay the remaining balance and go to court, and recently we just won the court case getting reimbursed $30,000+ for our initial payment plus legal fees we paid. We would of been happy to pay the remaining balance (we already paid half the bill initially) if they came and fixed the issues. They chose to go with court threats over a few thousand dollars instead of helping and building trust to their customer. In the end the court case speaks for itself, a company should never treat their customers the way flexstone treated us.

This product is superior to anything else that I have seen with regards to durable, waterproof flooring for a deck. Ive used it on two of my own personal decks at two different places. Im not an installer, but I was able to do it myself both times. The final product is incredible and the staff were totally helpful in coaching me through the process. Follow the instructions and you will end up with something far far superior, durable, better looking than vinyl.

Fantastic looking and durable product. Can be done by reasonably skilled diy or they have pro installers avail. We did my parent’s 140 sqft deck in 4 days - including one day for replacing the subfloor. Highly recommended.

Flexstone President and General Manager, Ken Magoski referred me to one of his approved installers, Goldcoast Renovation and Decks to install Flexstone over my vinyl deck. Ken assured me that Goldcoast owner, Kevin Spafford, would do an excellent job. Goldcoast did a terrible job - Kevin and his crew made an absolute mess of my deck and surrounding area. They didn't tape anything off before completing the work so there is undercoat, clearcoat and flakes on my siding, trim, railing posts, stair stringers, railings. The vinyl was not secured properly and is curling up. They didn't protect my belongings under the deck so there is flake all over the concrete, landscaping, chairs, inside my bbq, under my deck. Kevin acknowledged the poor workmanship and promised to resolve, but it's been 6 months now and he has stopped responding. I also called Ken at Flexstone who said he would contact Kevin and ensure he finished the job correctly, but after two emails and months later, no results. Neither Flexstone or Goldcoast have any integrity or follow through. I have a partially finished deck and a huge mess on my hands that will cost more to fix and clean up than I paid for the deck. I would not recommend either of these businesses.
