About FIRST AVENUE DENTAL
Dr. Derek Thiessen was born and raised up on a mixed grain and cattle farm a few minutes south of Swift Current. He graduated from the Swift Current Comprehensive High School and moved to Saskatoon to pursue his University education. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan College of Dentistry in 2013, and has been practicing dentistry in Swift Current since.
Dr. Thiessen is married to his lovely wife Jillian and they have three children, two boys and a little girl. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, coaching minor hockey and soccer, woodworking, helping on the family farm, playing trumpet in the Swift Current Jazz Orchestra, and travelling. Dr. Thiessen is the former president of the Southwest Dental Society and serves on council for the College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan. He is a member of the Canadian Dental Association, a Pre-Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, an associate member of the International Association for Orthodontics, and is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

I was in the chair expecting a lot of discomfort and pain from the procedure I had to undergo, but I was in and out in less than an hour! I had minimal pain when the freezing wore off, and am so happy with the work that was done! Would highly recommend this office to anyone!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I've been seeing Dr. Thiessen and the wonderful ladies here for a few years now. Every single time has been an amazing experience! Nobody likes going to the dentist but they have made it so my whole family has a pleasant time, every time! My kids love the funny pink nose (nitrous) and I love that my kids don't hate going!
I LOVE this practice and highly recommend them to everyone who has fear or pain: they will help you more than you can imagine!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ While travelling through Swift Current, I fell and smashed my face on some concrete during a routine stop for fuel. First Avenue Dental was the first place that showed up under search results for emergency dentist, so we called. Even on a fully booked Friday afternoon, they were wonderful to deal with and got me in as quickly as possible. Dr. Thiessen and his staff stayed late to fix me up and re-implant my knocked out tooth. They did their best to make me comfortable with all the pain relief options I requested, with no shaming. Due to bad experiences, I have some very bad anxiety surrounding dentistry so I am super grateful for this. Dr. Thiessen set me up with all the prescriptions needed, answered all my questions, and let me know I was welcome to call or text after-hours if I had any other questions.
Much thanks to Dr. Thiessen and all the staff at First Avenue Dental for getting me fixed up and back on the road!
