Mr. M. was 92 when he came to live with us. He had dementia, arthritis and anxiety disorder and within the first week he was referred to the BSO team as his responsive behaviours had escalated significantly. Over the next 5 months the BSO team worked with Mr. M. to establish his behaviour triggers and review the personal history supplied by the Alzheimer’s Society. They learned that he was a WWII veteran and contacted Veteran’s Affairs. They were able to obtain more information about MR. M’s service and determined he qualified for a hearing loss pension and that he also qualified for an attendance allowance for a one-on-one companion for when he would become more agitated. He also qualified for assistance to get a much more supportive and comfortable wheelchair. With the more focused care plan in place including a much better wheelchair and an attendant companion, Mr. M’s mood improved quickly. His behaviours decreased in frequency and intensity, he was more alert and talkative. Mr. M. was much happier and his family members were very excited that their visits became much more enjoyable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was at maplevew today and there were two ladies at there desks as i was standing there for over 15 minutes but would not come out to see how they could help me. I dread getting old and having people that don't care look after me . The management need some training to look after people .
