El Mariachi - Edmonton

Okay so I have lived in Edmonton for almost 10 years (consecutively now) and I haven't been here till recently... slightly embarrassed.. I feel like El Mariachi's is one of those local secrets and there is, honestly, a part of me that doesn't want to tell you all about. #jokingnotjoking El Mariachi's is located on 124st and has a super authentic vibe and atmosphere to it, even incorporating it's own little Mexican grocery store in the back. The establishment isn't fancy and it doesn't tote a lot of gimmicks or anything like that but it's got a fair bit of space and they can accommodate larger groups. The food really speaks for itself. Here's the secret part I don't really want everyone to know because it means it'll get busier.... every Tuesday, they have $2 Taco Tuesdays. The tacos are authentic and delicious... they have a variety of chicken, beef and pork for taco Tuesday. Tacos, and food, are served with 6 different types of hot sauce ranging from mild to extra hot - they are all delicious by the way. Food can take a little bit to come out and service can be a little bit slow due but just go when you have some time to spare, enjoy a drink and appreciate the complimentary chips and dip. I haven't had the opportunity to try out their expansive menu yet, since I usually go and take advantage of the tacos, but I have had their tortilla soup (also yum) and I have noticed a decent variety of vegetarian options. Charming, colorful and clean Mexican restaurant. The dishes have excellent flavor, generous portions for the price and will definitely fill you up without breaking the bank. The staff/servers were friendly, pleasant and efficient without being in your face too much. Wonderful array of hot sauces and very good selection of Mexican beers - a great way to spend an evening - we will be back ! ?

Guacamole here is superb! I also had the fish (pescado) tacos. They were good but my partner had the pulled pork tacos and his were better. Love the selection of house made hot sauces to try with your meal although as some people have pointed out, it's not the spiciest. They carry Jarritos here (a Mexican soda brand). It was my first time trying it and was really good. I recommend the lime flavor! Interesting decor, authentic feel and they have a small section where they sell imported Latin goods which is pretty neat! You can also buy fresh soft taco shells to take home for your own taco night.

Couldn't be happier with the food at El Mariachi. Decor is quite charming and plenty of seating. The beef tongue is to die for. Lots of other options with one of the best cheese and nacho starters sides I've had. Only complaint is the food takes a bit long to prepare, so don't expect fast service.

What a great place to eat. The flavor was fantastic, the price reasonable, the portion sizes perfect, and the atmosphere was charming. Was very surprised it was not packed considering what a great meal it was. I will be back and highly recommend to others.

Visited on a Saturday night and it was quiet and service was quick and friendly. The food though was the highlight - as it should be! We had an order of chorizo sopes and we tried one of each of the standard tacos. The sopes stole the show. Wow. Very happy we visited!! Also, loved their chocolate cake. It was dense and moist without it being overly sweet. Will recommend and come back!

Absolutely love this place! Food tasted authentic like my Abuela made it! The staff are super friendly and the restaurant is kid friendly! The high chairs are so cute! Definitely your next go to place!

If you're in the area it's a decent place for some decent Mexican food. Reasonable prices for the meal and plenty of food. I enjoyed my tacos, just wish my Al Pastor tacos had more pineapple, but the pork was cooked we'll with lots of meat in the taco. My carnitas taco was ok, but I think if stick with the pork next time. The Aztec soup was good and had a nice flavor. Also enjoyed the Choriqueso. I'd come back when I'm in the area and want some decent tacos.
