We have done every room here and every single one has been wonderfully designed and a fantastic experience. The staff are engaging and lovely and we can’t wait to complete any new rooms added. A great family experience!!

All the games I’ve played at Durham Escape Rooms have been well thought out and a lot of fun. The staff have always been pleasant, helpful and professional. They’ve got some great game plans. If you haven’t been, it’s a fun night out with friends and family.

Pretty fun, i played the castle one. The drawbridge was fun but the locks are kinda unexplained for resets

All in all we had a good time doing the Doll island escape room. The staff were very friendly and got us into the spirit of the game. The instructions given were very clear and all of our questions were answered. Without getting into too many details about the game itself we did take a few minutes to get going but eventually found our groove. On the most part the clues were very clear with a couple of exceptions which had a huge outcome on the success of our game. How do I say this without any spoilers …. There was no letter visible at all in the one of the clue pictures. Even the staff associate after the game was done couldn’t find it. So in a game where time matters, guessing a letter doesn’t help. The only other issue was having to guess the order of a number lock at the end. We had the numbers but guessing 16 different number combinations shouldn’t ever happen. Although their was a pattern explained post game there was no indication of why it was that pattern order in the game itself. Was it a logical option yes.. but there were other options just as logical. I don’t say all this to complain because we did in fact have a great time! However for future players the game could be that much better if things weren’t just left to chance or guessing. We will definitely return for another adventure since in spite of these set backs it was a well thought out, fun and creepy adventure!

My first experience in an escape room. The staff was friendly and explained everything to us. We came super close to finishing in time! Will definitely go again.

I'm an escape room enthusiast and I have been to escape rooms in different cities, and I have to say, this one was BY FAR my favourite. I was even in one where they chained me to the wall (with a spare key in our pockets in case of fire) and another that made me crawl through a tunnel! Don't be fooled by their slightly outdated-looking website, the staff make the experience super immersive and it was worth every penny. My group of 4 loved The Black Rabbit (hard mode) - we didn't love the synopsis, but took a chance and the theme fit the room extremely well. We're definitely coming back to try at least two more, if not the rest of their escape rooms. If you want to do an escape room that you can't stop talking about, this is it. I don't even live nearby but it was worth the drive. I'll update my review with specific thoughts about each room when we do them! Pro tip: Beat the room without any hints and see what you might get. ;) The Black Rabbit: You definitely want to do this with at least one other person, ideally 3 or more. The room and puzzles are designed so well that their max of 6 people would still be a great experience, and their required 3-6 players is actually a perfect recommendation. Mad respect to be able to design a room and scale it correctly for the number of players. One escape room I played had a max of 9 players which we did it with 8, when it really should have been 4 players. The variety and quantity of puzzles was amazing and so satisfying, a mix between old and new tech. The engineering for it was perfectly done, everything just worked, and that's exactly what you want.

This was our first time at the escape room. Four of us tried to solve Dr. Mason Warwick's mystery. Funny enough, the stuff member also named Mason was assisting us. He was great! Mason gave us a couple of helpful hints throughout the game when we got stuck and even acted out the intro/backstory for us, which was fun. We definitely enjoyed the experience and found it more challenging than expected. It was like going on a little adventure while trying to solve various puzzles. Perhaps it would be nice to have 10 extra minutes (you're given 45 minutes) to escape. If companies are looking for something fun to do on their employee outings, this is definitely great for team bonding or just spending time with friends. We'll be back trying to escape from another room!
