Deyar Kabob - Calgary

Am I missing something here? Why are the reviews so high? It really is a shame, the staff was amazing, very welcoming & friendly and the restaurant was beautiful and clean, but that’s where the compliments end. I ordered the chicken istanbul sandwich & my hubby got the mix Istanbul sandwich… I ordered mine with only with lettuce and 2 sauces (Tzatziki & garlic), we waited 25 mins for the takeout order and Once we got home my sandwich had a ton of different veggies on it and some weird yellowish coloured sauce that I didn’t order (I have no idea what the sauce was). It was extremely… extremely… extremely salty all I could taste was salt (same with the hubby). The sandwich looked beautiful but no flavour, I’m pretty sure licking a salt rock would taste the same. We spent $40 there including desserts, and those were also not good, the cream puffs just tasted like textured sugar, Icing sugar to be exact and The cookies tasted like icing sugar and grass and they were very dry. I have had better Afghan food at my work potlucks. Picture 1 is the mixed Istanbul sandwich, picture 2 is my chicken Istanbul sandwich (yellowish sauce?) We were really hoping we found another favorite place to have dinner but it didn’t work out. Good luck to them in on future.

The service here is amazing!!! The food is so delicious and well made, even the quality of the food stands out. Very clean and over all beautiful decor. 100% would recommend

Deyar Kabob’s modern take on Afghan/Middle Eastern fare is on point. Everything on the menu has been meticulously researched and put together to provide an experience like none other. The city definitely needed some variety in this cuisine and this place hits the spot. Had ‘The Instanbul’ and the stuffed Afghan bread and it was fantastic. The staff was knowledgable, friendly and always ready to make us feel at home and answer any questions we had. The interiors are gorgeous too. Will be back here many times for sure

There’s a NEW delicious Afghan Restaurant in town! Welcoming Deyar Kabob to the YYC food scene. ?? If you’re asking, “what’s Afghan food?” you must discover the answer. Take your tastebuds on an adventure, try something new. ? Deyar Kabob is a cozy little family run restaurant in the NE neighbourhood of Saddleridge. It’s a little further out in the burbs than my usual excursions (downtown dweller here), but so worth the trip. ? It’s Afghan food, with a Mediterranean twist and everything is halal. Amu (owner of Deyar Kabob) served us a wide range of dishes that really showcased the restaurant’s diverse array of items. His mom is cooking everything in the kitchen which made our meal even more homey. Some of which included: ? Mantu: an adventure in your mouth! A traditional Afghan dumpling with minced beef, covered in a split pea sauce, yogurt sauce and mint. I loved the flavours and textures. ? Ashak: all the dumplings please! This is a traditional Kabul style dumpling that’s filled with chives and topped with ground beef, yogurt sauce, and kidney beans. ? Potato Bolani: like naan, but better! A “flatbread” filled with potato that comes with a homemade tzatziki dipping sauce. ? Borani Banjan: a fried eggplant dish with a tomato and yogurt sauce. The eggplant melted in my mouth. So tasty! ? Beef Donair Sandwich: you can never go wrong with a donair. This sandwich is inspired by the “Berlin Doner”. Lots of succulent beef donair, veggies and sauces. It makes the perfect lunch! The Potato Bolani and a variety of other dishes are on special during 12:00-4:00 every weekday for pick up or dine-in. Sounds brilliant doesn’t it? ? Don’t forget to order the green tea. It warms the bones and has a lovely saffron flavour. ? Deyar Kabob is the type of restaurant you want to go out of your way to support. Amu was so lovely and provided us with a food experience we will not soon forget. ? I’m eager to go back! ?‍♀️

Awesome food. Very fresh and different from the typical middle eastern cuisine that we eat around town. There is lots of vegetarian options. My favourite is definitely the dumplings and the eggplant dish.

Food that we ordered was very good. One thing that could be improved is the dish variety for the buffet. Only one dish had meat in it and the rest were all vegetable based. Would overall recommend to order since it was tasty!

???? ?? ?????: ᴘᴏᴛᴀᴛᴏ ʙᴏʟᴀɴɪ: This was HUGE! It’s like a stuffed paratha with potatoes and chives. I’d totally order this again. I love stuffed breads! ᴍᴀɴᴛᴜ: I haven’t been able to get this dish at too many restaurants in Calgary and was happily surprised they had it! I love the flavours of the beef, lentils and yogurt. Simply delicious dumplings ? ʙᴏʀᴀɴɪ ʙᴀɴᴊᴀɴ: This was my absolute favourite! I’d never tried this Afghan eggplant dish but it’s something I’d order over and over again. If you like eggplant, ?????????? ??? ????! ᴄʜɪᴄᴋᴇɴ ᴛɪᴋᴋᴀ ᴘʟᴀᴛᴛᴇʀ ᴡ. ʙᴇᴇꜰ ꜱᴋᴇᴡᴇʀ: This huge platter came with rice, fries, salad, and two skewers. The chicken was nice and juicy, and the beef was quite well seasoned. I usually don’t like raisins in my rice, but they really balanced out the savoury dish. ʜᴜᴍᴍᴜꜱ ᴡ. ʙʀᴇᴀᴅ: We loved this dish. The bread it came with was so soft and fresh, it totally elevated the hummus! ɢʀᴇᴇɴ ᴛᴇᴀ: Such a good way to start and end the meal.
