Arguably the only real rare book store in Toronto. The owner is incredible gentleman who seems to know about every rare book on the planet, no matter how unique the topic.

One of the few truly antiquarian bookstores left in the city. Highly knowledgeable and approachable staff. A treasure trove of rare and interesting works, complete with two adorable shop cats. Worth a visit!

I have been a patron of David Mason Books for many years, and every visit to the store is a new adventure. Their stock is wide-ranging, finely kept and intriguing, and I have always found the staff to be helpful in every way, from answering questions (some of them very strange ones), to locating elusive titles and recommending new ones, to keeping me up-to-date on new additions by way of their eLists and online catalogues. I regret no purchase I have made their and David Mason Books is the first name I gave when I am asked to recommend a reputable antiquarian bookstore in the City of Toronto.

You won't stumble upon this wonderful store accidentally, so make a plan to visit it! The owner is a great fellow who wrote a memoir on his life in the book trade. If you're looking for a rare book, tell him about it. If he doesn't pull it right off the shelf for you, he'll know where you can find it.

This store does first editions only, often "restored." It is, then, largely novelty items and a dying or dead one at that. Like another reviewer said just look at the hidden basement location. The store is worth a look for entertainment, and his memoir might even be worth reading, like I did after thinking about the store some more, the cats mostly, like others said. He says in his book that people are scouring thrift stores for gems to pay for their hotel that same night and that a piddly $50 dollars is going to satisfy a break and enter thief, and to that I finish my thought given to the place by saying, good luck with that.

I had the pleasure of bringing some guests to David Mason Books and everyone was blown away. The owners are kind and so incredibly knowledgeable. The books and ephemera are fantastic with something for everyone on the shelves. There are some really hard to find books here and they are all so beautiful. Always add on a few minutes to give Henry the cat some affection. If you don't find him, he will find you. I will be back again and again!
