About Cravings Market Restaurant

Chef Julien Schnegg is Cravings Market Restaurant’s Executive Chef. He joined the Cravings Team in 2017 as the Executive Sous Chef and has established himself as a culinary artist since.

A native Swiss, Chef Julien grew up with the local delights such as cheese, charcuterie and chocolate. With a bountiful garden producing apples and plums, Chef Julien began his culinary journey at a young age, learning first how to make jam, jelly and the canning process from his mom. As he ventured deeper into the culinary world, Chef Julien frequented the farmers’ market to get inspirations in the kitchen.

For his formal training, Julien first attended the BBZ-CFP Biel Bienne cooking school in Switzerland. Upon completion of the 3-year apprenticeship, he proceeded to further his study in Geneva, completing his education in dietetics cooking.

Armed with two diplomas in culinary arts, Chef Julien joined the Swiss Air Force to begin his professional career. Julien’s career would later expand internationally to Canada, working at 4-star hotels. Prior to settling at Great Events Group, Julien went back to Switzerland and worked in fine-dining establishments in the nation’s capital, Bern. His experience ranged in varying roles for Montreux Hotel Excelsior, Sheraton Cavalier, Rastkeller Restaurant, Frohegg Restaurant and La Chaumiere Calgary.

The wait for our meal was short. The staff were friendly. The buffalo burger was great my husband said and the fries were a good quantity and freshly prepared. I had the braised short rib sandwich with yam fries. It was so tender the meat and flavorful. The best hot sandwich I have ever had! The melted swiss cheese was a great touch with the sautΓ©ed wild mushrooms. Best yam fries I've had in Calgary!

Booking a table was very easy. Got there and was quickly given a table. Ordered our food which was the Loster Squid Ravioli & kids pizza. The wait was quite long (over 30 mins) but to be fair, it looked like a busy night and the server was kind enough to offer a fruit bowl to munch on which we didn’t pay for. The food was really good, the squid was really cooked and tasted great although I felt the dish could have used a more generous amount of shrimp which they used but guess times are hard. I thought we would not be able to finish it given the quantity but surprisingly we did. Also bonus points for kid eat free days (mon - thurs) although it doesn’t cover drinks for the kids which I think it should. Anyway, overall good experience and I would definitely come back given the opportunity to try out the other menus especially the hot chocolates & sangrias.

I called 11:10am to place an order, I was nearby & ordered truffle fries (I think they would usually come with a dip?-didn’t), & a beet salad, I was told 10 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes later. Informed them I was there for a pick up, and gave my name & they said it was almost ready. So I browsed around the coffee/dessert area, asking questions to the staff member about cake orders, as my birthday is coming up, he wasn’t very helpful, & he wasn’t busy, except for refilling his own coffee. I waited, approached by 3 other staff members asking if I had been helped, informed them all I was waiting for my order, with my name. I looked at the salad take out area, & as they got busy, I moved over (after waiting 15 minutes), to the entrance to not be in anyone’s way. After being told my fries & salad would be ready in 10 minutes, I waited over 30, eventually the barrister called me and was looking at me as my phone rang, saying my order was ready. I told him I didn’t pay yet, I also asked another staff member if I could pay for my order with no response. Anyway I realized my order had been sitting on the table for take out for at least 15 minutes, and it showed in the quality of the cold fries I received. Unfortunately my experience seemed that they catered to the β€œregulars” that came in while I waited, but I guess I just got β€œlost in the shuffle”. I own a business so I’m rating 4 stars because I understand how much google reviews mean to business & I support local, maybe I just came on a off day or something. Unfortunately I was not happy with the service, or food. I will return though to try again, because I understand restaurants have suffered over Covid so I continue to support local. Hopefully next visit will improve. I would have bought dessert & salad had I been able to receive more information. Oh well, maybe next time.

Tried this place for the first time and OMG! How had I not discovered it sooner? They have a very interesting mix of choices on their menu and I will surely be back to try more dishes! I opted for the Farmer's Market Bowl and really enjoyed the crunchy potatoes and chorizo! Can't wait for the next visit. Oh and parking is free and easy too!

Decided to stop in for lunch. This is our first time coming here. It's a great concept. There are several choices to choose from. One of those one stop places that have a bit of everything. The seating area is large enough to accommodate a lot of people. The staff are friendly and even took the time to explain to us the whole process. So you are given a card and you go to whatever station you want to order any item you want. So you can go order from every station if you want. Once the food is up a server will bring the food to your table. Then you settle your bills at the end of your meal. So for example my wife decided on a Thai dish, I went with the "A La Vodka" and my daughter had a burger, fried and a fruit bowl. My pasta was delicious. It had some chicken breast and some cured pork belly which was very nice compliment to my dish. Almost like a smoked bacon flavour. My wife really enjoyed her dish as well and the best part kids eat free! I would recommend coming here. You can bring the whole family and its sure to cater to everyones tastes buds.

Welcoming staff, creative & flavorful cuisine and lovely presentation! Odd location( there is no sidewalk or bus service coming from one direction so we had to taxi there)Wonderful ambience and free parking! Super place for a cocktail or full 3 course meal! Sponsor of "Foodie in the Park". Clients can pick up Culinaire Magazine at this location.Good customer service skills and experienced staff work well as a team. We have been here several times and always enjoy it!? Highly recommended!

Lovely staff who were kind and caring in the experience. The food was good, accompanied by a really cute space. You're given a card that you can use while you walk around and check things out, swipe and order, and they'll bring the food to your table. Cool concept and something I'll look forward to bringing some friends to.
