Cowichan Canine Behaviour & Training Ltd

My partner and I enlisted the help from Cowichan Canine to try and help with our newly adopted dog that was having some reactive issues. Due to COVID our first "session" was online and was not of much help due to the fact that we were instructed to watch youtube videos on subjects that we had already researched and viewed trying to mitigate the problems ourselves. Our first in person session was several weeks later where we showed up to the nice and new facility in Cobble Hill. Our dog barked at the trainer when she exited her vehicle and she was instantly afraid of our dog. During the two hours we were at the facility, the trainer antagonized the dog from outside the fence without stepping foot inside the area to try and desensetize the dog. We stood inside the fenced area feeding treats to the dog and what made matters worse is that the trainer couldn't even take the time to know our names constantly calling us by other random names. Show some respect and take the time to learn your clients name when they are paying you good money for your "services". After our first in person session, there was a complete lack of communication for organizing our third session. After being fed up with how we were treated we contacted the dogs first foster parent who did the initial training and she agreed to meet us at the Duncan dog park where we actually obtained hands on help. One hour with the foster parent was infinitely better than the service we received from the trainer and actually solved our issues. Needless to say, we did not return for the third session. Poor communication, poor product and poor customer service, would not recommend to anyone

I am blown away by the commitment of Lisbeth. She goes above and beyond with her clients, and her extra touch and advice have made a world of a difference. For anyone who is struggling with a pet dog who needs support, I would 100% recommend Cowichan Canine.

I met Lisbeth about 3 years ago when I brought my then 2-year old Great Dane female to her to have a behaviour/temperament evaluation to see if she would qualify to go into training as a therapy dog and that day really was the inflection point of the relationship between myself and my lovely girl, Raven. We didn't pass the test! So after seeing to the wounds of my injured pride, I reached out to Lisbeth for her professional opinion on what we did "wrong", and she took the time to educate me and show me the path forward that has led to the formation of a bond of trust and gentleness between Raven and myself that I will never take for granted. Since then, Lisbeth and her staff (all of you!) have helped me to learn to read and understand both my girls, keep them feeling safe, and get them to a much happier mental and emotional place, and most importantly, to just enjoy that journey with them. I have learned that "training" is not the 8-week set of classes to simply get through with the objectives met, but that it's a way of life and patterns of daily behaviour that have enriched my relationship with "the girls" exponentially. I can't say enough about the Cowichan Canine team; we love coming to every class!

I can not recommend cowichan canine enough! Friendly, professional, knowledge and extremely helpful. They were very accommodating when I could not attend the 2 socialisation classes and allowed me to continue attending past the alloted time frame. It is a well controlled environment that has been a great help in socialising a new puppy

I took the Puppy Start Right Program with Cowichan Canine in spring 2021. Unfortunately, I withdrew from this program when my puppy was 14.5 weeks old (it goes until 16 weeks) because this program was a negative experience for my puppy. I would caution anyone with a sensitive or working breed puppy to think carefully about this program prior to enrolling. This program and Cowichan Canine failed to meet my expectations of a structured puppy socialization experience and professional business. Instead, this was akin to taking my puppy to the local dog park and allowing him to run free for 30 mins and hoping for the best. Pushy puppies were allowed to practice rude behavior, while shy puppies or those who needed space had their boundaries consistently disrespected. The trainer was discouraging and unable to offer assistance when I asked for help. I felt very unsupported by the staff at Cowichan Canine in general for the duration of this program, even as I reached out with them to try and talk about challenges I was experiencing with my puppy. The trainer was unwilling to set up an environment where all of the puppies had a chance to be successful. I have provided Cowichan Canine with a detailed review of my experiences and concerns. They did not contacted me to follow up about the feedback I provided, or to try and talk to me about the struggles I faced in this program. I will give them 1 star because the swag was the best part.

One of the best things I did while I lived in Duncan was to take my dog to the experts at Cowichan Canine. in fact I still go even though it's an hour's drive from Sooke. It's a happy place for both of us!

We brought our dog to Cowichan Canine to help us better support his socialization and were very happy with actionable advice and info we received through the Behavioural Evaluation and subsequent private lessons. We saw swift and lasting results! Thanks so much!
