This shelter has bed bugs and refuses to update individuals with information as to if they do call an exterminator or even when an inspection can be done so that they can treat this issue. This can be a serious matter if this bed bug situation becomes an infestation. We are human and these are basic human rights to stay in a place that is not filled with bed bugs. Not because some of the men here dont have homes mean you can treat us inhumane.

Working in the shelter as a community service worker was very stressful. We are treated really badly by management and shown no respect. Out of all the different departments at Cornerstone, the shelter workers are treated the worst by far. We have the biggest workload and the most responsibility and yet we have the lowest pay by far of anyone at the agency. We also have the worst schedule by far (you're working overnights as well as days and evenings, it's all over the place and you're working holidays) This is one of the worst places you can work at, avoid.

Before coming here, I already felt like i was at rock bottom and couldn't feel any worse. I was wrong on that one. Nicole and some of her staff are so mean and made me feel so ashamed and embarrassed that i regret ever coming here. I was better just sleeping in a dumpster. and some of the staff are incredibly lazy, especially Big Lazy Louise. Shes supposed to work with you to find place to live but she was too busy flirting with the ex convicts that live at the back of the building instead of doin her job. I give 2 stars for the food that the nice kitchen people gave me , otherwise i would give 0 stars if i could.

It's hilarious that they keep raising the pay here for Shelter Staff (Community Service Worker) since turnover is so high. It wouldn't matter though if they paid 30 bucks an hour, it STILL wouldn't be worth it. You are overworked to the bone here. You get hired on as a shelter staff but they dump a ton of CRF work on you as well and you're expected to do both. You are doing the work of 3 or 4 people at all times and there's no empathy, gratitude or respect from management at all. You can do a hundred things right and work really hard everyday and you will be shown no appreciation at all but as soon as you make a mistake, they punish you hard. You also have to put up with the abuse from the senior shelter staff that have been there for 5 or 6 years. These women are completely burnt out and go out of their ways to make new staff feel as uncomfortable as possible. Cornerstone is a horrible place to work, avoid at all costs.

If you ever get a job here in this awful place, take my advice and always watch your back. There is so much abuse, toxicity, lying, and backstabbing. I don't know how this shelter is able to stay open. The saddest thing is that the actual work itself is awesome. The clients that come in off the streets are a pleasure to work with. It's the MANAGERS and the other STAFF that make this place a terror to work at. Like I said, watch your back at all times if you're brave enough to work in this hugely toxic environment.

Cornerstone is an amazing agency to work with. Management is more than helpful and willing to work with staff’s concerns. The staff at intake are amazing, kind and generous people. There are some former employees that want to make Cornerstone look like a bad organization, which is their right to do so. But many staff have been there more than a year without issue. The only time intake staff are fired is when there is serious misconduct happening and if they’re not finished their probationary period (like any job) they are let go. It is not managements fault that these former staff made mistakes and were fired. If staff have questions about their work, the shelter manager is more than willing to meet with them and discuss or clarify anything. It is up to the staff working there to make sure they’re following protocol and understand Cornerstone’s values. No one else is to blame for these former staff getting fired other than themselves. It has been a joy working here and I hope other social work students do not get pushed away from this agency from a few past employees with nothing good to say.

About 5 years ago, I came here as a homeless man who had hit rock bottom. A great shelter staff named Charles did my intake, gave me alot of kindness and support and reminded me that I still matter and that I deserve better. He got me connected to a great lady named Ryann in the housing team at Cornerstone while I stayed here and together, helped me get back on my feet. She was amazing too. Here I now am, 5 years later, Im drug free, I have a full time job even during this pandemic, and I own a house! It took a long time to get to this point but it was all worth it. Charles and Ryann (and Cornerstone in general) Thank you so much for helping me all those years ago, i have never forgotten what you did for me.

Honestly don't know how this place hasn't been shut down or restaffed used to live there a few years ago felt a lot safer when I lived on the street staff were horrendous to us lots of us were forced to sleep on the hard floor. They would send Some people too known bed bug infested motels that would force illegal against the law rules on their tenants and they knew and didn't care would rate negative stars if I could
