VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNORGANIZED I applied online for a position advertised at the city correctional unit as a cook helper. After a pre screening I was contacted by the "kitchen manager". After playing phone tag for a week I was finally able to meet with him at a coffee shop for a 2 hour meeting explaining to me about the job. Being told I would receive a call later in the week due to one other interview, I patiently awaited any news. Not hearing anything I took it upon myself to call back, finding myself having to leave yet another message. I received a voice mail a week later, from the kitchen manager, informing me to get my background check done at ANY Alberta Registry. I found this confusing and did some research finding that only the local police/RCMP are able to do this and it would take up to two weeks. Explaining this to the kitchen manager he argued with me and told me he would call me back as to where I was able to go to have it completed for 30$ in one day as he knows employees have done this before. I took it upon myself to go and have the background check done at my own time. It cost 110$ to have it in 3 days. I paid assuming, since I was told to have this done, that I would be hired for the position. I was then informed by the local police that I would need fingerprints done as well which cost another 50$. I left another message with the kitchen manager explaining I have my papers now. On his call back he explained to me that he never told me to move forward with the background check as the individual he was expecting to quit still has not and that he would call me back in 5 days. On the fifth day I AGAIN did not receive a call. I called two days later and was given the same excuse and was told I would get a call by the end of the week (Friday). I AGAIN did not receive a phone call. During this month plus of being given the run around I notice yet two more ads up for the same position. I become even more frustrated and write an email explaining this. No response. One week later I write another email explaining my frustration only to be contacted this morning by text message from the kitchen manager, at 6:45am, saying "today 8.30 meet me at jail thanks". This, I find, is not sufficient enough time nor is it professional to text a person for yet another interview?!?! By now, as one can guess, I have given up on this position due to the professionalism of the kitchen manager AND lack of contact. I now get a call from the kitchen manager asking me why I will not be making it in to talk. I tell him he was very unprofessional in the way he handled a future employer detail by detail as had everything documented. I was told I have no idea what he goes through as a manager. That is not my concern. My concern is whether or not I am going to be hired in the position advertised. I know this email has gone on for sometime now, but I feel this will let future people in Lethbridge know how unorganized and unprofessional this company is and would, in my mind, continue to be.
