About Community Midwives of Thunder Bay
Lorena VehlingRegistered Midwife
Lorena was born in Sudbury and raised in the Fraser Valley (near Vancouver, BC) and is of mixed Italian and Indigenous descent. She has lived in cities big and small throughout Canada and spent a year in Germany. Lorena is a mother of two and it is through her experience of becoming a mother that she was motivated to follow her passion for maternal and child health into becoming a midwife. Lorena loves that she can use both her head and heart while working as a midwife. Lorena graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science (Hon) in Cell and Developmental Biology (2010) and the University of Manitoba with a Master of Science in Community Health Sciences (2016). She has also spent time working and living with adults with developmental disabilities. She graduated from the Midwifery Education Program at Laurentian University (2019) and is deeply grateful to the midwives and communities that shaped her training. When not in clinic or catching babies, Lorena can be found reading, travelling, cooking and spending time in nature with her family. Lorena is strongly motivated to provide compassionate and culturally competent care to the families she accompanies in midwifery care and is grateful to support people during this transformative time. Lorena is currently on parental leave.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ From my own experience plus my friend's plus my coworker's, do not go to this one. Especially if the baby wants to come out at middle of the night, good luck with that. They are all women there, but they don’t care what the mother is suffering, guess they are just doing this so long they stop caring.

So far I've had Rebecca and Alex deliver my babies and even when there was a slight complication with my son (his head was blue when he came out but he quickly recovered), Rebecca's reaction to the situation was quick and calm. I'm currently with them again while pregnant with baby number 4 and although covid makes things kinda frustrating, the care I've received has been amazing. Thank you for being so understanding and caring. ??????
