About Co-op Touchless Car Wash

History

Calgary Co-op is truly the original “local” grocery store

Back in the mid-1950’s, Calgary Co-op was just getting started; the first store opened downtown on November 15, 1956 with a small but enthusiastic grand opening celebration. Founded by farmers, ranchers, and food producers banding together to sell their wares to a dedicated membership of local buyers, Calgary Co-op is truly the original “local” grocery store.

The idea behind membership in a grocery co-operative like Calgary Co-op was to allow members to own and have an interest in the success of the store—and a say in the products it carries. Members have a financial interest in the success of the cooperative (often through receiving monetary returns based on the frequency of shopping and spending) and in turn they support its success by shopping there.

The grand opening of “store number one,” was held on November 15, 1956, and despite the success and elation at their entrepreneurial venture, it was a small affair. While the local press declined to cover it, Calgary‘s then-mayor Don MacKay was there to cut a ribbon, and the 1000th member joined on that very day in November.

By 1958 membership had climbed to 3,350 and Co-op purchased the land next to the downtown centre for a service station. In 1960 Calgary Co-op had opened its second store, the North Hill Centre on 16th Ave. NE. Membership grew to 5,525, sales reached $2 million, and that time the staff numbered 115. Soon after, more new stores opened including the McLeod Trail Centre (1963), and Brentwood Centre (1965). Membership climbed to 23,038.

Gordon Barker probably says it best: “Calgary co-op was formed by ordinary people who wanted a business they could rely on when others failed to provide them with the services they needed. We must never lose sight of why Calgary Co-op was formed: to serve its members and to be a contributing partner in the community.“

Usually come here and fill up for a discount on a car wash. Touchless and leaves my car looking great.

It doesn't do that good a job. I got the regular wash for $12.99 (cause I didn't get gas there). There was a pre-wash rinse and then two soap cycles (one was a foam style cycle). The rinse afterwards was weak. Though it seemed to be just enough to get the soap washed off, it's not strong enough to get all the dirt off. Luckily the drying vents are very strong and there's more than ample time provided to get the entire car dried off. I always go to self wash bays and manage to get my car cleaner at half the price.

The wash itself was great, but the wait time negated most of the positive outcome. One of the washes was closed, but you wouldn't know it until you almost reach the door. Would be nice to know ahead of time when you can still choose to leave.

I got a 20-cm crack on my windshield after using the regular touchless carwash in a normal afternoon with +2 oC temperature in a February. As I have been always using this carwash since 2017, I noticed unusual high-pressure and noisy water with focused power. They recorded the case and at the end they did not cover anything, while it could only cost less than 500 dollars. They said "there was prior chip in the windshield probably in the shaded area near the top molding and the temperature difference cause the chip to crack", Genius! Pessimistically, I assume 1-5 similar cases a year and Co-op has not seen such incidents in their policy that means they are not professional in their job and do not care about customers. Oh, by the way, they sent an old-version of disclaimer too saying "The operator is not responsible for the damage of the vehicle during the car wash" probably even when the machines fall over the vehicle. So, please check the chips stocked in the wholes, and then the temperature of water and air, and also call your insurance before using Co-op Touchless Car Wash.

Long lineups, could wait for an hour just to get your car washed. Some cashiers give you the discount on the car wash and some do not. They need to follow a uniform rule. Otherwise the car wash itself is good and the wash prices (only after the discount) are quite a good value.

Park. Go inside and pay. Get back in a long line with an inefficient flow of cars. Enter code. Then car wash. Seems in 2022 this could be much more simple especially considering it’s not inexpensive.

Equipment for touchless car wash is very functioning and good maintaining. Service is great. I paid wash inside of gas station and their customer service is great, but I am sure if there is app for car wash.

I don't particularly like this car wash, as compared to the other CO-OP's. When I exited I noticed that some of the multi color solution was still on the car. I had noticed that solution was still coming out during the rinse cycle. However they are still better than the competition when it comes to the length of cycles. That is why I rated it of only 3 stars.
