Chartwell Allandale Station Retirement Residence

Over promised and under delivered. Staff turnover is unreal. Food is horrid and terrible quality. They claim to have a Red Seal chef - no Red Seal chef would ever serve the quality of food at Allandale. Management doesn't respond to residents or their families - think three times before you place your loved one in this place!

After experiencing a fall, my dad made the decision to downsize, sell his home and move into a retirement home. We dropped into Allandale Station and never looked back. We were given a thorough and informative tour of the brand new facility, and my dad was sold. This review is, admittedly, before his move - but the support we have received from the staff already has been amazing. Moving into a home is a difficult transition, but they've helped to make it as smooth and seamless as possible, including being flexible with move-in dates. I feel confident that my dad will be happy in his new home. *2021 Update - I have been extremely pleased with the Allandale Station’s conscientious response to the pandemic of the past year. My Dad had been happy at the home despite the restrictions that they (and all of us) have had to deal with. And living on the other side of the country, I’ve been grateful that he’s been kept safe. The staff at Allandale really care and I want to acknowledge their hard work during a difficult time.

The team at Allandale Station are kind and fun and dedicated, beyond compare. My mother is pretty spectacular and I did not want her to move to a Residence, but now I have seen her flourish there. She has greater joy and companionship and greater peace and comfort. Allandale Station creates the environment you would dream of for a most beloved parent.

Thank you to everyone at Allandale for your warmth and kindness. From the moment I first visited Allandale it immediately felt like home. We all know we are surrounded by people who care about us. Your hard work and dedication is recognized and truly appreciated.

It's been two years since I wrote my first review of Allandale Station (below) and I can only reiterate how wonderful this place has been for both of my parents. My Mom was a HUGE fan from day one, but my Dad was so resistant to moving from his house that I thought he would never settle in. But settle in he did! He has found himself a routine with his regular morning walks along the spacious hallways with lovely pastoral artwork, and engaging contact throughout the day with other residents and staff. He is much more vibrant than he was in the last year at their house, it's been great for both of them. And it has been an absolute lifesaver having them there throughout the pandemic. The staff have their safety and mental wellbeing at heart with every decision they make, allowing me piece of mind as I live so far away. The isolation that seniors have felt during the pandemic is heartbreaking but with the safety measures and constant surveillance in place, my parents have been able to enjoy their little "island" of friends and kind staff members, for the most part able to participate in activities and gathering in the dining room at meals. I can't thank them enough. And a special shout out to Charlene G in the office who has printed off myriad documents for my parents to sign and has scanned them all back to me as I have been settling some of their affairs. What would I have done without her?! I can't believe anyone wouldn't enjoy life there, there is so much on offer to residents and the staff is so kind and patient. ________________________________________________ To say my Mom is enjoying her new surroundings would be the understatement of the century. I find her outlook on life, her spirit and indeed her health have soared since her arrival two weeks ago, she has found a new lease on life and everyone who knows her cannot believe how happy she sounds! And this is in no small part due to the kindness and caring of staff at Allandale Station. The facility is beautiful but it is the people that are truly making the difference.

Charlene, the women in charge of room sales, was so helpful and kind to our family. She is flexible and is truly interested in doing what is best for each resident entering Allendale. The staff and residents here are friendly and accepting. Even during a tour our grandmother was making new friends. When things fell through due to unforseen circumstances Allendale gave us time to make decisions and didn't pressure us. They put the resistance and thier families first and business second. This is our first choice in retirement living 100 times over, we couldn't have asked for a better experience.

We have been looking for a place for both my parents to live as they can no longer live in their 2 storey home. My mother has numerous medical needs and unfortunately Allandale was unable to take her at this time. Charlene is so caring and professional and even though they are unable to take in my mother they were upfront with the fact they couldn't take her in. We have toured the facility a few times and it seems like the staff are very caring and the residents and building are well cared for.

My mother who lives at Allandale asked me to post her delighted "Thank-You to James and all the staff!" for the lovely New Years Day dinner they hosted for all the residents. Many Thanks to James and the staff for their care. 2020 and 2021 held great challenges and the team at Allandale worked thoughtfully to keep everyone healthy and happy. Thank you for a wonderful celebration of the first day of 2022 and very best wishes for the year ahead.
