About Cedar & Steam

Brandy is the owner & founder of CEDAR & STEAM.

Her love for the heat & natural health benefits began while living in Australia on the infamous Bondi beach. Her daily run along the beach would finish off with a good sweat sitting in a sauna oceanside! She returned to Canada to study Interior Design at Mount Royal University. Graduating in 2010 with a Bachelors in Applied Interior Design.

She worked in Calgary focusing on residential design until the beginning of 2019. Over the years she looked for ways to relax & refuel for the week ahead. Starting yoga in 2015 she found the heat of a flow class really pushed her strength & helped with mental relaxation but didn’t allow for any socialization.

She craved interaction and community which is often not known about saunas but is one of their benefits. She quickly realized there were a lack of mental & physical relaxation options in Calgary that allowed socializing; had an affordable option & were accessible.

Brandy started building the concept for the boutique spa in fall of 2016 while still working as a full time interior designer. She officially incorporated and founded the spa fall of 2018. Construction began spring of 2019 & the spa opened late summer of 2019.

Brandy offers a new spa experience unlike anything in Calgary to help you mentally and physically relax. She’s excited to share it with you!

This experience was really disappointing. My girlfriends and I booked Mother’s Day massages and were greeted at the front by one of the massage therapists who very loudly proclaimed, β€œso why are you all wearing masks? Should I be scared?” Followed by β€œyou’re not health care workers are you?” while creating an X with her fingers. Although she was not MY massage therapist (thankfully), the woman who massaged me also proceeded to ask why I was masked and whether I was unhealthy or just cautious. Bottom line: if you’re running a business whose employees make fun of clientele for masking, you can guarantee you won’t see me again. Besides that, the massage rooms are basically in the front hallway so you spend your massage hearing front desk staff chatting, the back sauna was broken, the massage was subpar and the shower smelled like sewage. This place is a pass. It’s a big city with lots of massage services…find yourself a less crowded, less judgemental, more professional place.

This is the coolest spa. My husband and I went for massages and included with the massage was the sauna access. So many different kinds of saunas! The cost for the massage was definitely on the pricier side but likely because the sauna cost was built in. Overall a great experience. Especially loved the free flight of kombucha. Left feeling relaxed and cleansed. Will absolutely be back, perhaps skipping the massage and just doing the sauna access.

Nice relaxing place, with the COVID restrictions, only 2 people can go in each saunas, and they have several different types of saunas from: Himalayan salt sauna, infrared sauna, steam sauna, and finally a sauna with a spectacular view of McLeod Trail for ultimate relaxation! I would come back here again; however the only flaw was when I was leaving no one said anything to me, other than that I really liked the place.

The saunas were really good, but there was no relax space to just sit and rest in between the sauna sessions. We had to sit in the locker area on a bench while other people changed their clothes there. Overall the space is really small and doesn’t give you the wellness vibe.

I would give an 11/10 if I could! My girlfriends and I had to revamp our bachelorette party plans last minute, and we booked a sauna and steam at Cedar! Despite the miscommunication regarding the booking, they still accommodated us wonderfully, and our best friend who's getting married tomorrow enjoyed a well-deserved 60-minute massage with a complimentary 2-hour sauna and steam! Definitely worth the visit, and we will 100% come back again! Just a tip for first timers (bring a swimsuit/ sports bra) and a water bottle! They have a tap inside where you can refill your bottles!

I would rate more stars if I could. Absolutely sublime experience here. The facilities are pristine and the most relaxing. Everything is so well maintained and clean, one would think this place opened yesterday. The friendly attentive staff are the best part of this - and that’s saying something given the whole offerings here are fantastic. The massage services are also excellent. Melanie gave me the best massage I’ve ever had. The desk staff were welcoming and ultra pleasant. I will be back, lots. I will be sure to spread the word about this awesome place too! Last comment, prices are also very competitive for the high quality of services here. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!

More like 3.5! I went for a sauna/steam session, which is my favourite type of spa. Their saunas and steam rooms are lovely inside! Great for the price. The only downside is the common areas between them, unfortunately it’s very exposed, and the locker area is directly in line with their front desk and the glass front door facing the parking lot. At nighttime it feels a bit like a fishbowl. The floor is wet and the vibe is like a pool locker room. Inside the rooms you really don’t feel it but moving back and forth outside of them isn’t the best. For the price there’s lots of nice features, but you do get what you pay for.

It is very tiny and narrow when entering. It really sucks that the massage rooms are literally where the check in is, and front doors are. BUT, if you are ok with a little noise. Than you can get past it, they try and drown the noise out with music in the rooms. We went as a group. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed their massages. All three therapists were used. While I am not sure what happened with my relaxation massage that turned into something else. I was ok with it in the end. The steam rooms, I was surprised there were so many. There were 4 steam rooms at different temperatures. So we did a bit of hopping in between. I do suggest having a glass of kombucha after as it’s way more refreshing than before. But they should have made ppl leave their shoes in the front as it is true. The ground can get gritty. Otherwise the different steams were nice. I enjoyed the ginger kombucha. The bathrooms were clean.
