BEWARE! Over a week ago I adopted a small female dog that I fell in love with instantly. I was clear from the beginning that I could not take on a reactive dog because of my own previous trauma. They assured me that she had been vetted and tested but was healthy and non-reactive. 24hrs after I paid almost $1000 for her, I had to rush her to the vet. She was FULL of worms! The vet insisted that she had been released too soon and needed 2-3months to clear out. She was literally sneezing out worms. A few days later, I left her with a dog sitter (highly recommended, professional, and someone she had already had a play date with) for a couple of hours. The dog became unpredictably reactive and bit the sitter's face and hands. She insisted that I return her to the shelter ASAP. I tried speaking to the staff but they were very abrupt and wouldn't even let me finish a sentence. They did everything to take the dog and get me out the door as fast as possible. Now I'm out nearly $1300, heartbroken over losing a dog I had bonded with, and have a house full of worms. 3 days later, they posted her again online! Without posting any new information! Said she's healthy and good around kids and other dogs! Not only did they rip me off, they are not taking proper care of this poor dog, and potentially putting in danger the new owners. Absolutely shameful!

I have read through the comments on this place. I have made a couple of my own opinions. I do not recommend this place if you are a new dog owner. This place is clearly a business with the intention of acting like a shelter. I paid around $900 for my dog, which is outrageous for a shelter. However, with proper training, my boy has turned into the absolute sweetest family dog. If you are going to buy from this place (I say buy because of the outrageous adoption fees) Proceed with caution.. not all the dogs here are healthy. They will release an unhealthy dog to you. PLEASE do your research and examine the dog thoroughly before you bring one home from here

This is a FOR PROFIT Adoption agency associated with Cabana Kennels in Kavana. They adopt out dogs without notifying the people adopting of potential issues. Recently I had a friend adopt from there and the dog was neutered only 2 weeks before they got him. No cone, the incision was infected and they were charge a premium adoption fee of $875 because it was highly sought after. They were told this was to make up for "less adoptable"dogs so the less adoptable dogs could get care.

I have recently adopted a female dog. The staff were courteous and made sure this was the perfect fit for our family. They had it vet checked and I also did after adoption and the results were the same. I highly recommend if your looking to adopt a pet that needs a loving home. Rags to Riches for these babies.. Thank you Cares Rescue!!

We adopted from Cares K9 last month, and we are happy with the service they provided. We went in twice looking for a dog for our home, they were very up front about the costs it would be to adopt a dog from their facility. However they didn't provide us with vet history, but they were quick to respond to emailed questions that we had through the whole process of recieving our dog. I recommend this shelter because it has brought us a new and loved family member.

BEWARE!!! I adopted my dog just over a year ago, she is a King Charles Cavalier which was my dream Breed. I saw her posted and had to get her as I am so PRO adoption. When I got to the adoption event she was in a little blocked off space with another Cavalier. They were laying together and the other one lifted its head when I came in but mine just laid there (The other dog had already been spoken for). I asked about her temperament and they said she is super chill just a little shy, I instantly fell in love with this dog. So I adopted her, I paid a hefty amount just over $900 (which in my mind is rather pricey for a 5 yr old dog even if she is pure-bread). When adopting they advised she has a Spaying appt. booked along with teeth removal. After receiving her she wasn't shy she was TERRIFIED of everything. Wherever she came from (they didn't disclose but eluded to a puppy mill rescue) she was treated so horribly and malnourished she was terrified. Not to mention she has dry-eye syndrome and they were giving her HUMAN eye drops ….. my vet was floored by this and luckily we now have her on the proper medications (actually regained tear production in her eyes thanks to my vet). I ended up having to push her surgery back as she went into Heat and my vet didn't want them doing that while she was in heat. When I re-booked the appointment I clarified with them prior to that it was the Spay & Dental work. After I got her back from the adoption agency from taking her for her surgery they not only didn't do her dental work they said they would do but the vet they took her too BOTCHED her surgery. My vet was absolutely astonished by the work, she ended up getting not one but two infections in her surgery wound which was highly expensive for me to fix her after they completed botched my dog. I actually called the vet they took her to and he said "that is just some side effects". I also asked them about the dental and they never replied to me. A year later I mustered up the cash to get her teeth removed, my dog had such severe dental disease at the age of 6, my vet had to remove ALL her teeth. They said for a dog of this age that is not normal. (Not to mention the adoption agency should have paid for this and had this done before I even adopted her) Moral of my story is - I adopted a dog who I was lied to about her condition, I was lied to about the extensive medical work (the fact they were giving human eye drops to her just goes to show how little of vet care they give), and they ripped me off by not doing the dental work they said they would do before I even adopted her. With all this said, I have recused my angel from a horrible place, she is now healthy and happy and to this day only trusts me and some other females, as I am still in training programs with her getting her to trust humans. If I have any advise is that they should not be an organization all together. I believe all animals need to be recused but CARES needs to actually give them proper care and treatment before adopting out animals to people. These Animals deserve a second chance. Do the right thing CARES and take care of them so they can be happy & healthy.

BEWARE! Cares K9 has changed ownership and locations since we adopted our other dogs in 2016. We adopted a dog in late April 2020 who most certainly should have been in a foster home - Cares was not upfront about her fearfulness and issues, saying she was just "shy". Our dog is petrified, will not walk, would not eat, use the washroom, nothing. Cares offered to take her back and put her in a foster and give us another dog however I do not trust them after our experience. We took it upon ourselves to pay for our own trainer to help work on her fearfulness once we got back to Calgary. Incomplete vet records were provided (what kind of spay certificate doesn't have a date on it?) and never received the adoption paperwork we signed and were told we would receive after a week. Vaccination records don't appear to be from a vet clinic. Upon proper vet examination, our dog needs to have almost all of her teeth removed - why wasn't this done when she was taken in? Most reputable rescues will have the dog ready for adoption and medical issues stabilized prior to. Especially when paying almost $600 in adoption fees. They say the higher fees are to help care for the less adoptable dogs and the ones with more issues, well our dog certainly has issues that should have been taken care of. Would NOT recommend this rescue facility at all, very bad experience and nothing good to say.

After losing my lab to cancer I waited and about a month later I randomly saw an ad on social media for pet adoption services and after a few clicks i ended up seeing a few dogs in the same place and one in particular stood out to me so on my next day off i went to the shelter to meet him and i did, in fact i met several that day. Then i saw a picture of then Catalina on the wall and was told some of her story and asked if I'd like to meet her as well. Of course i did and when she came out it was like we were meant to be. she was and is so loving and always wants cuddles. The staff that day and the atmosphere was amazing. It was very easy to see that all of these dogs are loved by the staff just by seeing how well they (the dogs) all loved being handled by them and how the staff interacted with the animals. They made my experience of overcoming the loss of a companion so much easier and i am forever grateful to them all for their stories and introducing me to my "Angel" now. I truly believe we rescued each other and none of this would have happened without the caring and amazing ladies i met there. The name of this place Cares K9 is 100% fitting to all who enter those doors. (Angel and i went to visit a couple weeks later and she loved going back to meet her other humans. She carried no resistance to going there and i feel that speaks volumes on how well she was treated by everyone there)
