Nice folks. Pretty decent country overall. Sort of inconvenient how you have to show passport/birth certificate, etc., but at least they're polite.

First border agent we spoke to was rude. It honestly seemed like she was trying to determine if we had been drinking (we certainly had not). We were told to pull over and go into the office, that was the extend of our instructions. Inside it's not marked where you should go, so we got in the wrong line. We didn't know why we were there to begin with so how would we known which unmarked line to get in? We found the right person who interrogated us some more. They took our passports and told us to wait. About 15 minutes later they called us up and said they needed to run a background check on us. It was a pointless extra hassle that added nearly 30 minutes to our trip. If they had communicated this to us from the beginning it probably wouldn't have seemed so bad.

Terrible people in the border. Very rude at us for no reason. Officers are racists and called us nicknames and were using abusive language while communicating with us. All we had to do was to return the IR-94 form and we had all necessary documents. But they could not be professional even a tiny bit.

As retiree neophyte travelers to lands outside our borders, we found our indoctrination to this particular border crossing & guard to be rude, abrupt, condescending and impatient. I completely understand the National need to scrutinize 'foreigners', but our experience was way, way over the top! Actually, our entire time in Canada left me thinking "Does no one in Canada know the meaning of Customer Service?" During our travels in Canada, we found it (good customer service) in very rare cases...too little to warrant our return. Even fellow motorists who, when observing our out-of-country licenses plates, became aggressive toward us on the roads while we were driving/observing careful 'roadway etiquette'. Don't worry; we're not coming back....we've plenty of beautiful areas of our country to explore and places to spend our American dollars....right here in the good old USA! After this experience we're glad to say "It's wonderful to be home!"

We were going to Thunder Bay for lunch. Had all our passports (4) in order, Basically the perfect visitors. The agent at the window never spoke a kind word. He was condescending, rude, borderline aggressive, just a total jerk. I actually questioned if he was going to pull his gun when we din't answer his super snotty questions fast enough. He was such a complete monster I feared for our safety. Then when he made us pull to the side and come inside the guy inside said" What are you in here for?!!!" Again, RUDE as could be. He yelled about us not having "yellow papers"?? I said the guy at the window told us to come inside. He told us to sit down. We waited about 10 minutes, and a polite young lady came out of the back and told us we could go. We left. I said nothing, assuming if I did I was going to jail. I've not been talked down to, especially for no reason, other than coming to your country to spend money, ever in my life. Won't be back, hope not all Canadians are like this. They need a new ambassador.

We had an interesting experience here but it was handle in a very professional and polite manner. They have to be strict in terms of laws and protections for their country and its only understandable. As long as you have your affairs in order and answer politely you should be okay. Side note: If you have a situation with which you were pardoned for, the Canadian government does not recognize American pardons and so please make sure to file proper paperwork to ensure that it is not a surprise issue at the border.

No problem here if you keep your attitude in check .As Canadians , we have experienced issues crossing the American border as well , but keeping calm is your best bet .
