About Calgary Bobsled Track
History
The Bill Warren Training Centre (BWTC) opened in January 1994. The facility provides fitness training and support services to Nordic athletes and the public. The BWTC is located at the Canmore Nordic Centre. It was the host site of the cross-country skiing and biathlon events at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games.
The facility is used by the National Training Centre for Nordic Canada and Biathlon Canada, as well as Alberta Alpine, World Cup Academy, and the Canmore Nordic Ski Club.
The 1988 Olympic Organizing Committee helped fund the construction of BWTC. This was done through a generous donation of $4.7 million. Renovations happened in the spring of 2008 and included the addition of a new building and the expansion of a weight room.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Terrific facility. Home of the sliding events of the 1988 Olympic Games, and the setting of the Cool Runnings story. Tourist bobsled rides are available to the public, as are discover Bobsled and skeleton sessions, that allow novices to experience the sliding sports. Luge has similar programs. In the summer months when ice is no longer on the track, wheeled bobsleds take tourist riders. A fun experience, usually piloted by very competent, often Olympian pilots.
If not sliding down the track, a trip to the top to see the athletes preparing and starting their runs is a unique and worthwhile experience. Highly recommend a visit if you're in Calgary.
