★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Officially opened on December 4, 1980, Blackcomb is the fall-line alternative to Whistler. Blackcomb has the higher official peak (outside resort patrolled terrain) & a staggering 1609 meters of vertical, but overall less acreage than Whistler. It became a popular snowboarding mountain in the 90's with the terrain park, halfpipe, & all that fall-line terrain. Blackcomb also offers summer hiking & sightseeing in the alpine plus the Ascent Trails with optional download-only tickets. Access areas are via the Village (Excalibur gondola), Upper Village (Blackcomb gondola), & Base II (Excalibur gondola). It is "connected" to Whistler Mountain at Whistler village base (bottom of the Excalibur gondola) & via the Peak to Peak gondola in the sub-alpine.
