Birth Control Centre

My first appointment at this clinic was pleasant, kind and comforting. Some of the nurses try their best to treat each patient with upmost respect. However, I emphasize that only SOME of the nurses are like this. My second experience has left me fearful for my IUD insertion appointment. When I called to ask a very basic question about my appointment I was treated as an inconvenient interruption to her day. I found this very confusing, because I was under the impression that your patients are the reason these nurses are employed? Anyhow, please do not expect consistency at this clinic. If you have questions about your appointment, be prepared to be faced with a snippy teenager-like attitude, regardless of how polite you attempt to be. A message to the people that work at this clinic; THANK YOU to those who are treating people with respect and dignity. You are making a difference in people's lives, it is appreciated.

The nurse on the phone was not the nicest, i paused for a second during one of her questions and she continued to raise her voice at me, i calmly responded to her answer and said if you had just been patient there would have been no need to raise her voice and she refused to help me after that and told me to call back tomorrow. I liked the younger nurse i spoke to before, she had patience

The nurses, front desk staff and doctors have been great here over the years. I have only had one negative experience, but all my other visits were pleasant and easy due to the staff. Your services are super appreciated and I'm glad we have something like this in edmonton to help young women/adults. Corey and Dr. Yu are amazing and compassionate individuals. I would recommend to come here if you don't have a regular family doctor and need birth control and other services.

I really appreciate the services they offer here! I'd say 95% of my experience has been positive (deeply appreciative of free services, some of these things are hard to afford otherwise, also never had an unkind or grumpy nurse, everyone has been extremely soft spoken, kind, patient). I did have one nurse who was subtly sharing her personal opinions thinking I was agreeing because the topics were regarding some things which I have not personally experienced. None of it was out of line per-say, but I have very dear friends who would align with what she was sort of critiquing and it just made me a bit uncomfortable knowing that she could easily be thinking these things about me had they been my own experience. Other times I've gone in I've had nurses who never shared their personal opinions, the conversation was completely neutral and I felt entirely safe and comfortable.

I have good experience with most the staff there there one girl who definitely wakes up on the wrong side of the bed more then others don’t care to know her name but other then that everyone there is supportive and caring and i felt super comfortable with the doctor I had only thing I’d say is an issue is when you call and everyone’s busy and you wait an hour and it still says the same thing sucks but there busy only wish they had more staff to talk to

I have struggled to find good Healthcare practitioners. I received what I consider to be my first great experience at this clinic! Staff were helpful both by phone and when I did a walk in. And could relate to me as a person instead of only as a random client. We got as much as possible addressed on the same day. Received a ton of useful advice and consultation RE: my IUD options and insertion as well as other concerns. And got some extra useful attention from the doctor I had. Very happy. Thank you for the care you put into your service!

Over all, a lovely and welcoming clinic. I didn't feel judged, and every staff member I had so far has treated me with respect and dignity, even when I was at my lowest. I wish I had gotten the nurses names, so I could thank them. Only complaint is probably the wait times, both in clinic and on hold, but it's not too bad.

I’ve been coming to the Birth Control Centre for the last 4 years. Majority of the staff are so super sweet and really go out of their way to make sure you’re comfortable and have all of your questions answered. I’ve only had two or three unpleasant experiences with a nurse or a doctor in the whole time I’ve visited the clinic, but I don’t think those experiences are an accurate representation of the clinic as a whole. I recently had my IUD inserted by Dr.Siu. She was amazing throughout the process, even though I was having a difficult time with it. Can’t recommend her enough. Today I saw Dr. Whalen-Browne for a follow up and she was so kind and caring towards me. She answered all of my questions no matter how small and never once made me feel like I was wasting her time or asking stupid questions. I really appreciate the great care I received from her today. I was so afraid to have any sort of pelvic exam done, but she made the experience much easier and less scary for me. And last but definitely not least, Nurse Barb! Barb is by far the best nurse I’ve ever seen not only at the clinic, but anywhere. She really goes above and beyond to take care of you, and help you with any problem you’re having whether it be medical or just life stuff. She’s extremely personable and she really shows that she cares. When I talk with Barb, I feel like I’m talking to a motherly figure. If it weren’t for covid, I’d be giving her the biggest hugs. You’re the best, Barb! Thank you for everything. Finally, thank you to all of the staff at the Birth Control Centre for everything that you do! I don’t want to go anywhere else for my *lady needs*.
