I was almost at JPP when I got a phone all cancelling my appointment and I wondered why I was notified at the last minute. I was told I had to rebook later so I left a message to rebook. When I was contacted about a week after leaving the message I was asked, “…you use a wheelchair…”. I said yes (I’m not sure how the person knew). I was told I could not book an appointment now because I needed a doctor’s referral to get a diagnostic test. When I spoke with my doctor neither of us understood the reason for this request as I have had several mammograms in the past and no family history of breast cancer. I’m not sure what “the wheelchair” issue was about but I’m feeling extremely discriminated against. I called again today and said that I have had several mammograms in the past without a problem but again I was told, “ there is a note on your file that says you cannot walk.” Once again I explained that I have had many mammograms in the past so why do I have to ask my doctor for a diagnostic test”. Once again I was told, “it’s because you can’t stand”. I asked, “who made this policy”? I’m still waiting for someone to call me back to explain. In Canada we cannot discriminate and I said I am thinking about filing a Human Rights complaint. ? ***UPDATE-after speaking with numerous people I finally spoke with the manager and she said she would educate the receptionist and have an appointment booked for me. That was a couple of weeks ago and I still haven’t heard back.***

It is now six months after the four weeks of radiation therapy treatments for prostate cancer. It looks like I am now clear thanks to Dr Narinisingh and the wonderful staff of radiation techs. It takes special people to work with cancer patients. And for sure they are all special people.

As a transgender it often challenging to deal on a daily basis with bigotry et rejection. But the staffs there are pretty impressive to make me feel comfortable with care and empathy! They are by far much more professional, welcoming, caring and empathic than any others medical clinics I visited in my life ! it's like wow.

The doctors here are lovely, they are organized. The nurses are amazing. The one thing they could improve on was the counseling they have available. It wasn’t true counseling. They seem busy and eager to tell you you’re fine so they don’t have to see you again.
